Bucket Listing in the California Surf

5 Mar

I’ve been spending my time lately just hanging out with good friends, family and working on getting physically stronger/in better shape.  It’s so important for the mind and body to be taking care of yourself and working out.  It’s been so helpful being surrounded by people who are up for anything and that I just enjoy their company.  My good friend, Lesly, has been such a wonderful new friend in my life!  We go and try a new restaurant once a week and share a love for board sports.  It’s been on my bucket list to surf in CA because I only have surfed in Hawaii when I go see my family about once a year.  It’s something that I’ve always found incredibly peaceful and something that I had wished I had more access to.  Lesly has her own board and wetsuit and knows the waters in Northern California well.  It’s very important to respect the water and know what you are getting yourself into.

With the weather really warming up this weekend (73 degrees and no wind), we hit Pacifica on Saturday for a nice long boarding session.  I had a blast with her and can’t wait to do it again soon!

We had less than half mile to go so we just shoved the boards in the back of Lesly’s car haha!

Just taking the Ferrari to the beach.

Pacifica is a great place to enjoy the ocean.  The swell was very small this weekend which was great for me and it was very relaxing.  There is also a Taco Bell right on the beach to re-fuel after surfing 🙂  That’s not part of my getting fit routine but it definitely screams your name after paddling for a few hours.  Happy Monday everybody!

Birds, Surf and Sun

18 Jan

OK, this was seriously hard to narrow photos down into even two posts.  I had so many that I felt really showed the vibe of Huntington Beach.  Here’s the second set of my Huntington Beach photos.  What a wonderful place to spend my Saturday.  I think I’ll have to go back there sometime, especially in the summer!

Seagulls lounging.

Kimmie and a bird that kept swooping in near us.  Must have thought we were going to feed him.

The composition of this photo was all Kimmie’s idea and that’s her in the photo but it is a very cool perspective!

Huntington Beach is amazing ❤

What is winter in Southern California?!

17 Jan

One of the first stops Kimmie and I made on my Southern CA excursion was to Huntington Beach.  I was so excited to see Huntington because she used to live there and so did a bunch of our friends, so it was exciting to see their old stomping grounds!  I’ve also never lived on or very near to a beach (I’ve lived close to Lake beaches but not ocean), so it’s fun to get to see the beach towns and people.  This past Saturday was the day we wandered around Huntington and there also happened to be a small surf contest going on but I had so much fun shooting photos from the pier of all the surfers and waves.  I couldn’t believe this was Southern California winter weather.  It was between 65-75 the entire weekend and people were in the water surfing all over the place.  I shot so many photos that I’ve decided to split this post into two.  Here’s the first of two, enjoy!

Ruby’s diner at the end of the Pier, so cute!

I love the way the waves look when they crash from the ocean side view.  So pretty.

So many surfers!

Surf contest.  The contest was on one side of the pier and the other side was for all of the other surfers.

We were literally looking down at the surfers.  It was such a neat and interesting perspective.

Travel Thursdays!

29 Sep

I’ve just come up with this new idea for my blog to do Travel Thursdays.  Every Thursday, I will write about a great place that I’ve been and that I think is worthy of a visit : )

To start off my first Travel Thursday, I’m going to write about Hawaii since that will be my next bigger adventure.  I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii with some of my family and Ian.  I love spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii because it seems so wrong but right to be barbequing on Thanksgiving with your toes in the sand.  Very non-traditional but so nice to be care free on an island in the middle of the Pacific.

The beach outside my family’s condo.

I’m just a beginner but I can’t wait to do some more surfing.  I always like to go when in Hawaii because the water is so warm and the views are beyond breathtaking.  My brother likes to surf as well so when he comes along, we go out together.  I often wipe out simply because I get memorized watching all the fish swimming beneath me in the wake.

I saw a turtle while snorkeling just off the rocks here!  They are common in Hawaii but do not touch them.  It’s harmful to the animal and highly illegal.  Not like anyone would ever see you but if they do, it’s a huge fine.

I love hiking to hidden beaches.  There are little public coves like this all over the islands.

Lounging with the family : )  I love just being able to hang out with my family in Hawaii.  I’m really lucky that my family likes to all come here together.  We have a blast together!

Ohhh yes and the sunset are unreal…

Enjoy the water slides at the resorts!  Here’s my cousin : )  We had a lapping contest, look out pool goers!

View from above of part of the pool at the Marriott in Ko ‘olina.

Find some shade and relax, enjoy the views, and/or read.

Not a great picture at all but the sushi with the fresh fish in Hawaii is out of this world!  One of my favorite sushi spots is Sensei Sushi on the Maui island!

You can go boating!  My aunt and uncle live in Hawaii (on Oahu) and they take us to wake surf, boat, tube, and much more out on their boat.  We’ve seen turtles from the boat and also some amazing waterfront, out of this world, estates.

Relax in a calming lagoon.  Some resorts have lagoons without the waves that are very safe for really little kids or just loungers.

If you get the chance to go to Hawaii, explore as much as you can.  It’s one of the most wonderful places in the world 🙂
