Summer Skies

16 Aug

Tuesday night this week, a mini cloud storm rolled in that made for one of the most beautiful sunsets I’d ever seen in the East Bay of San Francisco.  The pictures only do half the justice of the unbelievable sunset.  I hope if you were in the area you got to enjoy it as well.

Near my house.

Every few minutes with the changing of sun position, the sunset changed in a new beautiful way.

The beams of light were my favorite.

The pictures may all look the same but they are different variations from about a half hour of changes to the sky.  I haven’t seen a sunrise or sunset this spectacular in a very long time.

Enjoy!

Summer Peach

23 Jul

I’m the type of person that mainly drinks water.  Lots and lots of water.  My main exception to this rule is coffee and the occasional glass of wine or beer.  I don’t love soda or juice very much but with these recent scorching days, I’ve been craving something a little more refreshing than just water.  Yesterday, I hit the store to try to concoct something refreshing to drink outside in the warm evening and highly enjoyed what I came up with so I thought I’d share 🙂

Ingredients: Peach concentrate (or juice of your choice), bubbly water, and a splash of coconut water (only if you enjoy it on it’s own).  I also added some fresh slices of peach because they are in season and I love summer fruit.

I did about 3/4 glass of peach concentrate and 1/4 of bubbly water with a splash of coconut water.

It’s a great summer refreshment that I thoroughly enjoyed on the porch last night.  I hope everyone had a great weekend 🙂

Sky high

5 Jul

One of my favorite events to watch/shoot at the summer X Games was the Big Air BMX contest.  I unfortunately missed the Big Air Skate contest which I’m sure was just as cool but there was nothing like standing at the top of the Mega Ramp watching these athletes fly so high into the sky.  These are some of my absolute favorite pictures from the weekend.

The lighting and shadows were awesome during practice.

The landing of the big air before the mega ramp.

Helicopters filming as well as all the ground coverage.

I got to shoot some photos from right under these guys behind those Geico signs.  The shots are unreal as you are about to see.  Such a surreal, incredible experience.

The under side of the ramp!

Huge.

Top of the Mega Ramp.

My favorites.

Doubles!

Successful.

The magnitude of the height of these tricks in person is unbelievable.

Dropping!  That has to be the craziest feeling.

Upside down.

Above the crowds.

The riders were all flying.  I saw some MAJOR spills and the sound of the rider hitting the ramp is terrifyingly loud.  Luckily, everyone made it out OK but what a thrill to watch.  Truly a dream come true to stand at the top of the Mega Ramp and watch it all go down 😀

Taking gold was Steve McCann, silver was Zack Warden, and bronze was taken by Kevin Robinson.

Everything is right about getting extreme in the summertime

2 Jul

I had the pleasure of shooting the summer X-games this weekend in LA.  Talk about a dream come true.  I cannot wait to share all of my photos and stories with you this week 😀  Until I upload the DSLR shots, here’s a photo re-cap from my iPhone photos.  Enjoy!

Big Air!

Vert!

Street skate and bmx course.

Rally pits!

Staples Center for Moto!

Finals on Vert

Where all the press conferences were held for all podium athletes.  So interesting to hear them answer any and all questions.

Hot Wheels loop!

BMX Big Air from the top of the ramp side.  Un-real view.  I can’t wait to share these photos.

Skate and BMX bowls.

This was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had as a photographer and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity.  I can’t wait to share all of the photos that I took of these talented athletes!

Soft Summer

1 Jun

When shooting for this post, we were testing places and lighting where I snapped the below photos of Chelsea.  I thought I’d share them because they are so soft and beautiful and I love lower backed dresses.  She’s also so easy to shoot because every photo turns up beautiful and effortless.  I love my partner in crime, she’s always up for the crazy adventures that get thrown our way.  If you will be at BFD this weekend, look for us because GoPro is strapping cameras on us for the ultimate concert experiences.  Pretty awesome things to come.  Oh yes and HAPPY FRIDAY! 🙂

I love the back of this dress!  This number is from Forever 21 as is usually everything we wear.  That store is the best.

I love this photo!  She does a really great job of being in front of the camera.  I am the complete opposite.  Although most photos on my blog of me look composed, it usually takes a long while to get there.  I’m much more comfortable behind the camera.

Neon Indian Summer

30 May

There’s something about the warmer weather that makes me want to dress in brighter colors.  Chelsea and I had a fun time mix and matching neons and soft colors to put this post together.  I also love anything with a Native American twist.  Alas, Neon Indian Summer…

Chelsea in F21 top, sandals and skirt.

Love the bows on the back.

F21 neon sandals. SO cute!

These two brights go so well together.

You could even pop this with heels.  Some nice summer sandal wedges.

I love this neon pink jacket for summer coverage (F21 blazer, dress, and Urban Outfitters sandals)

For daytime, I threw the Native American inspired tunic over a neon green swim top to put with the hot pink jacket.  It’s subtle but the perfect summer bbq color combination.

I also love racer back tops for summer.  They show a little extra skin and allow a more casual feel.

Ring from Topshop in NY.

For night time, you can add some earrings, heels and leggings to dress it up a bit and stay warm through the cold currents we get here in the city.

Urban Outfitters shoes.  I can’t tell you how comfortable I find Urban Outfitters shoes to be.  You know when you find the ones that fit like a glove?  That’s how I feel about every pair I’ve bought from them.

I always find that if you’re going to wear heels with a shorter tunic/dress, you must wear leggings.  Without leggings, sandals are a much better fit.

I find bold jackets are always a difficult decision to buy because you don’t know how much you will wear them but if you buy them at Forever 21 they are guilt free and I wear mine more than I ever thought I would.  It’s perfect for days when you don’t want to leave without one.  Also, with the amount of black and white that I have in my closet this jacket always adds a good pop 🙂

Happy colorful summer everyone!

Brighten Up and Work Out

24 May

With the sunny evenings and longer days, I’ve been enjoying every after work evening outdoors.  I’ve been riding a lot more and getting out even if just for a walk.  A little neon can’t hurt the case and this bright apparel  (shown on Chelsea below) is a great way to add a little happiness to the cause.  You can get neon tennies is almost any color now and you will be much more visible to cars passing by if you are near a road.  Try to avoid wearing dark colors or colors that blend with your surroundings if you are going to be running through streets.

Apparently, they add some good spring to your step as well 🙂

I’m loving all the neon tennis shoes!

Working out is so good for your mind and body.  Take advantage of the cooler evenings because it’s only going to get warmer for summer!

When summer time is here, everything feels right

16 May

With summer coming up, there are a lot of things to look forward to.  It gets very warm here in the summer but there are a few things that never get old even when the weather is unbearably warm.  My two favorite seasons are winter and summer for the exact opposite reasons involving weather.  I love snow and I love being in the water.  Here are a few things I’m looking forward to this summer.

Shaded hikes near my place.

Doing outdoorsy things like skeet shooting with my dad and step dad.  I don’t hunt, I love animals too much but shooting the clays is a lot of fun!

Weekend warrior trips with friends.  I have an upcoming trip to Vegas with some of my best friends from east to west coast!

Barefoot lake days and nights.

And sunny coastal days.  When it’s clear out, you can see everything in the bay.

Bring on the summer times, I’m ready.

Cha-ngria – Ginger Addition!

7 May

With summer coming up and the warm weather rolling in, I have been determined to make a good drink concoction for days meant to be spent outside by the pool.  I’ve always loved sangria because it has just enough flavor for one glass.  It was a dear friend’s bday over this weekend so I wanted to bring something over that the boys and girls could enjoy 🙂  I searched for an easy recipe as I wanted to make this Friday after work for a Friday evening enjoyment.  If you’ve read my blog before, you also know my extreme love for Ginger so the fact that this recipe called for Ginger Ale – I couldn’t turn it down.

Ingredients: Red wine, ginger ale, ice, brandy (or maybe even rum – of your choice), fruit (I used citrus flavors because they could be squeezed in instead of needing the overnight marinate), sugar and the unexpected Champagne!  I learned about the champagne trick from a good friend last week.

I used a whole bottle of wine, about half cup of sugar, all of the fruit, a splash of Brandy (probably 1-2 ounces) and about a full cup of ginger ale.

Once finished, I put a bunch of ice in the mix and brought it over to my friend, Brie’s, birthday.

Once you pour your glass of sangria, this is where you top it off with cold champagne!  I put about 1/5 the glass of champagne so don’t fill your glass all the way with sangria.  This makes for the most refreshing bubbly drink out there.  I think I’ll name this a Changria for it’s mixture of champagne and sangria.

Enjoy a well deserved Cha-ngria this summer!

Easy Summer Hair Option #2

2 May

This one is even easier than the last.  The photos are of the lovely Chelsea and she often does this simple twist that looks so cute.  This you could even do while walking to work 🙂

Before

Grab a section of hair (however big or little you’d like)

Twist it up.

Secure with a bobby pin.

Voila!  Hair out of your face and you could easily turn this into a small up-do as well by pulling the hair back and clipping like I did in yesterday’s post.
