How to enjoy the California snow when it’s Spring time

26 Apr

Well with the warm weather upon us and summer on the verge, you can still enjoy snow in the sunshine.  On Saturday, we headed to Squaw early morning for lots of runs and then the pool and lake in the afternoon.

Matt and Em!

The later in the day it got, the heavier and slushier the snow got.

They have some awesome lake views at Squaw.

For a weekend, there was hardly anyone there.

After our day at Squaw, we headed to a friends house on the lake.  They had the most amazing grassy yard and this incredible pier to lounge on.

The scenery at the lake NEVER gets old.

It was a perfect 75 degrees.

On Sunday, my friends and I hit Mt. Rose on snowmobiles to enjoy one of the last weekends before all of the snow melts.  However, they had a decent amount of snow up there!  It was very warm though, when not riding we were in t-shirts and tank tops.  It was more than a blast and I snapped a ton of photos along the way.

Climbing.

She’s tiny but she’s so strong.

The boys were launching.

Scoping.

Relaxing.

Balance.

We’d snowmobile for a while and then take a break to relax.  Then head back out again.  It was perfect.

One of the guys got a little stuck and had to roll his sled out of this predicament.  It was pretty entertaining to watch.

The sled rolling down the hill.

I’m not sure what was happening at this point in time.  Two sleds sliding.

Perfect skies.

We made a few marks in the snow on Sunday.

I wouldn’t have had it any other way 🙂

I’ve saved the best for last tomorrow.  We found a pond to skim while snowmobiling and things got a little crazy.  I have some AWESOME photos to share of it tomorrow to close out the week : )

Here is now and now is where I want to be

14 Mar

Some Instagram photos and some just straight from my iPhone with no filters.  Haven’t done one of these in a while so I thought I’d share some more photos from on the go.  Here’s a look at things I’ve liked or found interesting over the past month or so.

First flight on Virgin America was colorful 🙂

Cute idea for a mini arrangement.  This was a mini glass with mini roses.  Adorable.

It’s not perfect but I finally have figured out how to draw on my own nails.

My night rides.

Found a cool, extreme (and hidden) Ping Pong bar in the mission district of SF.  Pretty awesome spot.

Loving these braided and bright bracelets from Express.  Both me and Chelsea had to have them.

A dripping sunrise on the way to work.

Lights, lights and more lights.

Crepes on Haight St in San Francisco.

Em relaxing on the Phazer…

Pretty skies.

My favorite, Grand Central Station – New York.

Brandy Melville rings.

Enjoying New York pizza!

Hartford, Connecticut.

Through the window photo of the building above in Hartford.

Hiking in Northern California.

Love this area in Golden Gate Park.

Sugarbowl with Emily.

Em at the top of the Judah side of Sugarbowl.

Top of the De Young museum in San Francisco.

Taking photos of Chelsea and her shadows 🙂

Lunch lounging.  Nothing better in the middle of a work day.

I’ll try to do these more often.  They are such a great reflection on places I’ve been and great things I’ve seen.  Have a great day!

Tahoe is the best

OK, here are the last of my photos from last weekend.  Onto a new weekend we go!  Happy Friday 🙂

Watson Lake laps!

Getting wild.

Donuts on the Phazer.  This thing is awesome.

Custom paint job.

Taking turns making hot laps on the Phazer.

Gorgeous Day.

We were on top of a lke that was slowly melting.  Will a real winter hit us this year?  Or are we just in an off season because last year was SO good?

Blue skies all weekend long.

Matt and Clark having a moment.

Me and B having a moment HAHA!

One of my favorite Mexican eateries on the North Shore, El Sancho!  Not only is it delicious but the views are pretty great, too.

View from El Sancho.

Bus stop.

The moon started filling up and it was gorgeous.

Sunset driving home.

I think I love sunsets so much because they remind me to reflect on the things that I’ve accomplished in that day.  Did I do something fun?  Did I accomplish anything I’d wanted to?  Was it the best day I could have made it given the circumstances?  And they are simply beautiful.

I can’t wait to get back there.  It’s a place that can have all the snow in the world or none at all and I’ll just love it no matter what.  I didn’t get on my snowboard at all but maybe next time.  I had so much fun snowmobiling with Emily and Matt and was sore for days.  Like sore to sit down even.  It was awesome and I can’t wait to do it again.  Our next reunion will be for a Monstor Truck show coming up which I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to.  They just seem so American, how can you pass up a chance to see these machines in person?  I won’t forget ear plugs though.  I hear those are essentials!

Have a great weekend!

The top of a beautiful blue world

While spending the weekend with Emily and Matt in Tahoe, they were nice enough to take me out on their snowmobiles which is always a good time!  I love getting to go snowmobiling with them because it’s one of their true passions and they are both so good at it.  It’s also so liberating flying through the woods with the wind in your face and the Lake by your side.  One of the stops we made was at Watson Peak and it was incredibly beautiful.  I really had the best time enjoying the outdoors this weekend with these two.

There hasn’t been fresh snow in a while but it got very chilly at night.  They need a new snow very badly but they’ve got the temperatures at night for it.  During the day was too warm but it sure was beautiful.

We took the sleds up to the top peak of Northstar to enjoy a drink and some food and of course the nice day.

Toys.  Emily and Matt have the most fun garage of anyone I know.

I just love her!

I’ve missed my friends!

From Northstar we headed to Watson Peak which was just unreal.  I used to live where I could see this lake everyday and I can’t believe I don’t anymore.  It’s so incredibly beautiful and my opinion of that never changes no matter what the weather or angle I’m looking at it.

Em and Matt’s friend Ryan came along with us for the day, too!  His girlfriend, Kim, was working for the day so what better way to kill time than go for this beautiful snowmobile ride and he has quite the sled.  I’ll be sharing that in one of my next few posts.

One of the most fun days I’ve had in a while.  I have so much more to share from this weekend so I’ll continue to post more photos throughout the week.  Until then, enjoy!

Winter Wonderland – the magic of snow!

9 Jan

While other snow areas in the country are hurting for snow, I got spoiled in Michigan enjoying a nice storm.  Here are the last of my photos from my trip!

Perfect snowflakes.

There’s something about those mid-west skies…

Road trip.

Pit stop at Lambeau Field!

They had to de-ice the plane before leaving.  Not very comforting!

Heading back west.

I had such a wonderful time in MI.  It’s a very beautiful place and if you ever get the chance to visit Marquette, don’t pass it up.

Happy Monday and Enjoy 🙂

Pet Portrait Bloopers!

6 Jan

While I was in Michigan, I wanted to practice my pet portrait skills because that is an area of photography that draws me in.  I’d love to do pet portraits for people.  Duke, Ian’s family’s dog, was the perfect animal to practice with.  He’s so full of energy and so proud looking.  I took him out in the snow to try to hone my skills and I came out with some strong photos and some really funny photos.  I thought I’d share the funny ones today on this Friday to start the weekend off with a smile 🙂

This is just classic.

This dog is the happiest animal when you take him outside.  He will snuggle with you all day inside but suit up to go outside and it’s like somebody gave him a red bull!

Eating snow 🙂

Superman jump!

Trying to taunt me into coming to fetch the stick.

What fun it is to be outside watching this dog run free.  I’ll post the other photos of him, the non-bloopers, next week.

Enjoy and Happy Friday!

The most beautiful site the storm brought to me

4 Jan

Once Ian and I had gotten snowed in and grounded from flying, Ian’s mom Frida was so kind to find a way to make it possible for me to see horses in the snow which has been a long time wish of mine.  It was such a great experience seeing the horses outside in the snow running free.  I thought they might be cold in the snow but they looked as content as ever with even a small snow blanket on.  This is something I wish every animal lover could see in person.  Frida got me a horse photography book for Christmas and I was in love with a photo in the book of this one horse in the snow.  Little did I know I’d get my own chance to practice shooting one of my favorite subjects in the entire world in one of the most beautiful settings – snow!  My fingers were cold from shooting but it was beyond worth it!

Frida’s friend’s who owned the farm were nice enough to let us come out and check out their barns/horses.  One of them, Jason, gave us a wonderful tour and introduced us to all of the animals around the barn.  How lucky they are to live on this amazing farm.  They work very hard to keep it as beautiful as it is.

There’s always barn cats around and their barn cats were friendlier than ever.

This horse, Trigger, was a breed I’d never heard of before, a Colorado Mountain horse.  He was so beautiful.

Frida up close and personal with one of the horses 🙂

Then we met Daisy, the mini horse of a lifetime.  Such a cute mini!

Daisy and one of the barn cats.

Ian letting the horses smell him.  Always the best thing to do when first meeting a horse.

Sweet Daisy.

Beautiful.

This horse was a rescue.  He was very happy in his pasture with the snow coming down.

I just loved the colors and setting of this photo.

It was such a wonderful experience to go out and see these horses in the snow.  I was so thankful to Frida for taking me out there, Jason for showing us around, and Ian for being a champ in the freezing with a cold.  I can’t wait to go back next time I’m there and see these beautiful horses again.  I have so many more wonderful Michigan snow pictures from my trip that I can’t wait to post throughout this week and next.

Enjoy!

By golly, I’m snowed in!

3 Jan

The snow was just coming down yesterday but it was the wind that pulled Ian and my flights from the air.  No flights in, no flights out of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  I’ve never seen such a beautiful storm and I have photos to show.  I haven’t had the chance to put them on my computer yet but here’s a photo before the storm.  So quiet and calm.  Today waking up, the wind is gone and it’s quiet again although the flights out today were full.  Ian and I both got flights out of Green Bay tomorrow morning and we will be adventuring tonight with Ian’s parents over to Wisconsin!  In this snowed in time though, I got to go visit a horse barn in the storm and also work on my pet portrait skills with Ian’s sister’s dog, Duke, in the snow.  I have some great posts to come once I get back to my blogging office (aka my laptop and desk or couch at home).

Happy New Year!

Travel Thursday? I guess it’s a Flashback Friday – Breckenridge, CO

11 Nov

I wanted to post this yesterday since Ian is off to Breckenridge this weekend.  It’s such an amazing town nestled in the mountains.  I surprise visited him last year to come support him at his first Dew Tour and in return we got to snowboard a few of the different resorts and scout the town a little bit.  It’s so fun to get to visit all of the mountain towns that he calls “home” for short amounts of time 🙂  Lift tickets can always be expensive so if you are thinking about traveling for skiing/snowboarding, look into discounts online first!  Also if you get an all access seasons pass to Northstar (Lake Tahoe and my home mountain) or Breckenridge (CO), you’ll now have access to a handful of other mountains.  This is HUGE and a nice perk to being a season pass holder.

CO is one of the first places to get enough snow in the winter season to compete so a lot of snow sport athletes come here “pre” season.

Breckenridge

It’s very cold in CO so definitely bundle up!

Be careful driving with ice on the roads!  This was the biggest mistake I saw visitors make when in Tahoe.  Don’t worry about being late, every one is on snow time any way 🙂

Some of the Breckenridge runs.

Downtown Breckenridge.  It’s tiny but sooo cute.

Then we headed over to Keystone and in the background you can actually see the Breckenridge runs drawn down the mountainside.

The views are beautiful.

Colorado is a great place to explore for a winter vacation and if you go around the middle to the end of December, you’ll catch the first stop of the Dew Tour which is where all the professionals come out and do what they do best.  There’s so much to do in this tiny town and I’d recommend it to any snow lover 🙂

Sunday Funday!

28 Mar

My idea of a sunday funday is being outside doing something that I love and one of those things is snowboarding!  I have had a season pass to Northstar at Tahoe for probably the past 6 years but this year I wasn’t sure how often I’d be able to make it up so I didn’t purchase one.  I was able to get a few comp’d tickets through work and it’s made me realize how much I miss living near the ski hill!  I miss the days where snowboarding only three days a week was rare because normally it’d be five.  I had SO much fun today in all the powder in the trees today off the Look Out chair.  These pictures don’t do any justice for how much fun or beautiful this mountain and area are.

I wasn’t sure how the weather was going to be but it ended up being beautiful.  The sun wasn’t always out but it definitely stopped storming which was a nice change.

This was an actual building that was buried!!!  Seriously so much snow…

I can’t wait to get up there again.   Hopefully when Spring riding conditions are here I’ll be able to sneak a few weekdays in, those are truly the best.
