Summer Skies

16 Aug

Tuesday night this week, a mini cloud storm rolled in that made for one of the most beautiful sunsets I’d ever seen in the East Bay of San Francisco.  The pictures only do half the justice of the unbelievable sunset.  I hope if you were in the area you got to enjoy it as well.

Near my house.

Every few minutes with the changing of sun position, the sunset changed in a new beautiful way.

The beams of light were my favorite.

The pictures may all look the same but they are different variations from about a half hour of changes to the sky.  I haven’t seen a sunrise or sunset this spectacular in a very long time.

Enjoy!

Outside Lands – iPhone catch up

14 Aug

This past weekend and the tail end of last week were filled to the brim with some of the best music from all over the world.  I had somewhat of an agenda who I wanted to see at Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park this year but also kept some open spaces to wander and catch new music.  I had a lot of friends from SF and coming in from other cities to enjoy the music as well so with all these things on my side, the weekend couldn’t fail 🙂

To kick off the weekend, we went to see Of Monsters and Men at the Academy of Sciences (Nightlife) in Golden Gate Park.  They are this beautiful folk band from Iceland.  This was also Chelsea’s birthday so how nice of them to play a show for her on her birthday with just a few extra guests 😉  Outside Lands ticket holders had the option of purchasing these few tickets a few weeks before the festival.  There were many other shows like this throughout the lead up week and weekend of Outside Lands.

The infamous windmills.  These were located near the middle/back lawn area of the main stage.  We had the idea of having this be our meeting place if we all got separated but the funny thing is so did everybody else.  A lot of interesting things happened here like this girl who decided to climb the post and then got kicked out.

One of my absolute favorite local bands, Geographer, played Saturday on the Twin Peaks stage.  They sounded amazing as usual and the lead singer crowd surfed at the end, it was awesome (see photo below).

This is a great sign.

The Magic Crystal is where you could go to see well known comedians perform.  This was a cool feature to add to a music festival!  Although, it has a capacity and you had to wait in long lines to hopefully get in.

They had artist painting huge murals throughout the festival.

Here’s Bloc Party.  There were a lot of interesting lights for the later shows.

Once the fog would roll in in the evenings, you could see lights and lasers everywhere!

Skrillex.

Lots of lights coming out of Skrillex’s space ship to close the festival out on Sunday night.

My personal favorite?  Foo Fighters.  I don’t have enough good things to say about their set.  I remember listening to their old albums in middle school and high school which they ended up playing one of my favorite songs “Aurora” from an old album.

Some other highlights – Beck played an awesome set and brought out all of his hit songs.  The headliners included Neil Young, Stevie Wonder and Metallica.  Metallica had a crazy fire show with pyrotechnics popping everywhere.  There were music varieties of all kinds playing all weekend long.  Over 65,000 people showed up to sell out the festival.  Fashion is huge at the festival.  It was so fun to see everyone’s festival attire.  There were local restaurants that vended their delicious eats which is such an awesome feature because if you found something you really liked, you could now visit their location in SF.  It was a huge success and I enjoyed it immensely with all of my friends.  Now to power through this week so I can relax on a houseboat next weekend.  We planned this so we’d have scheduled down time after a long weekend of standing, walking and dancing.  I hope everyone had a great weekend and Outside Lands if you were one of the 65,000 🙂

Large city, empty streets

27 Jul

Last night on the way to a friend’s going away dinner, the streets seemed more quiet than normal.  Sometimes in one of the largest cities, you can have an incredibly peaceful moment.

Have a great weekend!

Spaces and Places

20 Jul

I find this city so inspiring in so many ways.  So many creative minds in one place.  I love taking photos of spaces and places all over San Francisco.  Below are two of my favorites lately.

This is Chelsea and my secret hide out.  When we are feeling a little overwhelmed at work we go to this spot and snack on ice cream.  I guess cats out of the bag now 🙂

Brie invited my over to her work office for a documentary night and I was in love with her company’s office.  It’s so modern and beautiful.  Not to mention, they feed their staff gourmet meals, host special nights (like the movie night we went to), and have a pet friendly environment – cute dogs everywhere!

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

My city drive and street driving, on another level

10 Jul

With the drop of the amazing Gymkhana 5 video that Ken Block released yesterday, I thought I’d share his video and my rally pictures from X-Games.  This drive Ken Block does at the beginning of the video into the city is my exact drive to work (if I were to drive and not take the train).  All of the Gymkhana videos he has made have been AMAZING but this one is extra special since it was made in my city 🙂  I’ve also been introduced to the rally/autocross world over the past few years and find it to be very fun.  If only you could rip around a car with no worries of wrecking it and the city blocking off streets all over for you.  Oh yes, and helicopters following and filming.  They really go large scale to make these videos that are nothing short of incredible.  Watch and welcome yourself to San Francisco!

At X-Games, the cars would open their doors and drive slow after a race lap.  I’m sure to let all of the heat out and/or get some fresh air running through.

Getting ready.

In the pits.

Subaru.

Design your own car!

View from the pits.  The hot wheels loop and downtown LA.

Cool down.

The pits!  You could walk around and check out all the cars and crews.  Pretty cool to see it all up close and personal.

They sectioned off a bunch of LA streets to create a street rally course in downtown.

We got dangerously close for a bit.  You can see a bunch of the tire tracks from practice.

Crowds lined the entire street course to see the crowd favorites Ken Block and Travis Pestrana.

Gold – Sebastian Loeb, Silver – Ken Block, Bronze – Brian Deegan.

Behind the scenes – to walk around to get to different parts of the X Games there were all of these back walkways to get around the crowds with special access.  I thought this was awesome, you could walk, skate, bike, moto, or anything with wheels.  Not only were there stairs everywhere but ramps.

Travel Thursdays – Ocean Beach, San Francisco

21 Jun

Last Saturday, my friends and I decided to make the trek to the coast line.  I appeared to be making a weekend out of the beaches in Northern California.  The weather was just too good to pass up and I’d never been to Ocean Beach before.  This is shocking to many people from the Bay Area because it’s such an iconic beach.  Anyway, now that I’ve been there I can say it’s worth a visit.  It’s nothing like the scenic beaches I’ve posted about recently but it’s wide open and you can see parts of the city behind the sand stretches.  There’s also been surf contest held here so you can watch surfers depending on the swell and tides.  Ocean Beach hugs the South side of the Golden Gate Bridge on Hwy 1 and is easily accessible.

There were a lot of people frolicking in the water but don’t let this fool you, the water is FREEZING!

Brie, attempting to test the waters.  She was more brave than me.  I dipped my feet and then backed out.  It’s refreshing but the weather isn’t ever THAT hot at the beaches in Northern California.  It was probably around 70 degrees which was very nice to be soaking in.

Brie and Tuckey.  I love these two, they are the best.

Golden Gate Park is right behind one part of Ocean Beach.

The sand was so soft and warm.

Playing around with photoshop a bit.  I love this picture of these two!

Northern California really has so many treasures to explore.  The beaches just seem so different to me than the Southern California beaches although the weather is probably much warmer down south.  Ocean Beach is a cool place to see and when you’re done there, you could always wander to Golden Gate Park which I find to be extremely beautiful.  It’s lush and filled with meadows and ponds.  No matter where you are, there are always good places to explore.

Let the good times roll

I still have more BFD photos to share but I have so many files that I need to get organized before I can post the rest.  Until then, here’s another look into my insta-life.  Why is Instagram truly the best?!  I love seeing people’s photos of where they are and what they are doing.  Not to mention, the filters can make some photos spectacular.  Some of these photos however are just iPhone photos and not instagrammed.  Happy Wednesday!

Delicious coffees on Haight St.

The new guy I’m working with is adorable!

Thank god for daylight savings time.  I love evening walks when the weather is still nice like this.

Enjoying the MGM pool while I was in Vegas.
