Modern Monday

30 Apr

After my typical peruse of Architectural Digest online, I always find some inspiring spaces.  Recently, they’ve featured interesting restaurants and other modern kinds.  There’s something so exciting about the next cutting edge of an industry and I love the architecture of things.  I think I pick this up from my father who would always have Architectural Digest laying around the house.  I always loved the photos in these magazines.  All photos in this post are directly from the Architectural Digest link above.  It would be a dream to learn how to shoot some of these incredible photos, maybe I’ll put it on my bucket list 🙂

Mexico City – Tori Tori

Paris – Sur Mesure

Hong Kong – Ozone

Brooklyn – Isa

There are so many great aspects of architecture that I just am awe-struck by on this site.  I always gravitate towards the 10 greatest spans post on their site as well.  Here are some of my favorites.

Big Sur, CA

Fayetteville, VA

(near) Boulder City, NV

I could post pictures from this site all day.  It’s really amazing the things that can be created with a talented eye for design.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!

This brings a new definition to living on the water!

I’m sort of an architect dork that enjoys perusing Architectural Digest from time to time.  I think I got this trait from my dad who always had them lying around when I was younger.  There is just something so interesting about a home or space created “out of the box.”   Today on Architectural Digest’s website, I noticed this incredible looking home.

Can you imagine living here??

This is a 5 bedroom, 5 full baths, 2 half bath, 5,920 sq foot home for sale for a cool $17.5 million….

Pretty insane if you ask me but very cool to look at.  I can only wonder what would happen to this thing in a storm though!

Details, details

Last weekend I went to the Concourse d’ Elegance car show to check out some unique and exotic cars.  To say Ian is a car guy is the understatement of the year.  When I met him, I learned more about cars than I ever thought I would and to be honest I like them more than I ever thought I would, too!  I still don’t know everything about them by any means but I can enjoy looking at them and driving fun cars.  I also learned how to drive a stick-shift once I met him which opens all the doors to amazing cars.  If you share this joy in fast, fun cars the first step is learning how to drive a stick shift.  Car shows are great family events and pet friendly!  I loved seeing all the dogs out at the show.  Here are some photos of the cars from the car show.

I’m personally a fan of the look of the Lotus Elise.  They are SO tiny and light weight but really unique looking.  Also for how exotic they look, they are much more affordable than you’d think.  They also come in an array of interesting colors.

The front end kind of looks like a smiling bug but an attractive bug at that!

The inside is pretty stripped so if you’re looking for luxury this isn’t the car for you.  It’s only a two seater with pretty tight quarters.  It’s a convertible though so on a nice day you can just go cruising with the top down.

The owner offered to let Ian and my mom and I to sit in the car.

The tail end of the Lotus.

This is an Ariel Adams.  It’s street legal but pretty much perfectly made for the track.  The latest V8 version holds the fastest track time around the Top Gear track (if you watch that car show).  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the street.

It’s an open care so it looks like a go-cart that’s mated with a dune buggy.

There are no body panels so you can see the suspension and all other elements that drive this vehicle.

And now Ian’s favorite… the Viper.  He and his dad each have one of these right now and love it (see below).

Ian’s dad, Ron’s, and Ian’s viper.

An all motor Cobra.

Big O Tires was there with a Hooked on Driving car.  Pretty great idea for anyone wanting to get into track driving.

Corvette ZR 1 – the ultimate Corvette (fastest Corvette ever made)

They also had these crazy looking boats in the middle of the show.  They were beyond loud and crazy looking!  Somehow I get the feeling these things just skim along the water because they fly so fast.

Here’s a Noble which is a kit car.  You buy the pieces and put the car together yourself (unless you buy it used from somebody).  Pretty cool looking.

You can’t forget Porsche and blue is my favorite color in most sports cars.

Lamborghini’s

Lamborghini Diable VT engine

Super race cars!

Pet friendly!  I loved this Newfoundland dog, he was HUGE!

And the dog liked the cars too.  I think Ferrari was his favorite.

Brand new Jaguar XKR-S Coupe.

Ferrari Italia.

And then we arrived at Ferrari lane.

One end of the car show with the majority being Ferrari lane.

After leaving Ferrari lane, we saw this race car with the most interesting windows.  I’m sure there is a great purpose for them but I think I’d get a little claustrophobic going so fast in something I knew I’d never be able to crawl out the window if I had to!

We had such a great time at the car show admiring all the fun toys and on our way to the car we saw one last beautiful piece of machine – the Lamborghini Murcielago all black with black rims.

The exhaust is really just huge on this car.  One day I will experience driving one of these 🙂

I love modern

Here are some modern spaces I wouldn’t mind being in and around.

I LOVE this interior space.  The cabinets all blend in and it’s just so clean looking.

I’m pretty impressed with the over view of this work park/courtyard.

I don’t know what it is about modern art/architecture/design but I can’t get enough of it!
