Make a wish. Make it count.

4 Sep

I tend to gauge my life on “moments” where I can recount back and remember exact moments and feelings I had at a specific time.  Cheesy as it may be, it’s these moments that change my life in one way or another.  This past year has been a year of moments and growth in my life and it’s been my friends and family standing by my side that have really given me the courage to finally go full throttle on life experiences.  Working in such a bustling city has been so inspiring but it’s also the moments when I am in the middle of nowhere with two of my best friends that I can find inspiration as well.

This past weekend, I was up with Emily and Matt in Tahoe.  We decided to go on a nighttime adventure to the top of the nearest peak to watch the sun go down and the extremely large moon come up.  It was insanely beautiful and I felt so lucky to be there with my friends.  I have some great photos to share from it this week but on the way up to the top of the peak, we stopped in this gorgeous meadow where Emily found the one and only dandelion.  I love that she loves photos too so she let me snap some photos of her and I just love how they came out.  When I was little if you found a dandelion, you would pluck it and blow all of the petals off of the stem to make a wish.  The idea of making a wish is so simple and almost magical because although we all know that wishes don’t just typically happen, it’s a lot of hard work usually that pays off to get a certain reward.

After this dandelion turned to just a stem, we searched and searched this meadow for another one.  We could not find another one anywhere.  Em managed to find the only dandelion.  It was beautiful and a sign of the seasons changing.  I thought I’d want to hang on to this summer forever since it’s been such a great one but I’m actually looking forward to the Fall.  Pumpkin, Ginger, hooded sweatshirts, and most of all the changing of all the colors outdoors.  It’s transitional and beautiful.

Next time you find a dandelion, pick it up and make a wish.  It’s the little things and moments that count 🙂

33 Ways to Stay Creative

17 Aug

My amazing friend Sheena had shared this post of Amazing Facts on Facebook and I couldn’t help but share it with you.  The Amazing Facts page on Facebook has great posts and I find it to be a very encouraging and interesting site.  I found this specific post inspiring and a good reminder on a Friday 🙂

Have a great weekend!

The Mayonnaise Jar and the Two Beers

20 Jun

My co-worker shared this story with me recently and I really found it to be interesting so I thought I’d share it.  It’s a good reminder of the important things in life 🙂

The Mayonnaise Jar & the Two Beers

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the Mayonnaise Jar and the Two Beers.

A professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him.

When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty Mayonnaise Jar
and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar gently. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They again agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with a unanimous “Yes”.

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.”

“The golf balls are the important things ~ your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions ~ and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.”

“The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.”

“The sand is everything else ~ the small stuff.”

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.”

“The same goes for life.”

“If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are really important to you.”

“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.”

“Spend time with your Children.”

“Spend time with your Parents.”

“Visit with Grandparents.”

“Take your Spouse out to dinner.”

“Play another 18 holes.”

“There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.”

“Take care of the golf balls first ~ the things that really matter.”

“Set your priorities.”

“The rest is just sand.”

“One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented.”

The professor smiled and said, “I’m glad you asked.”

“The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.”

Let the good times roll

I still have more BFD photos to share but I have so many files that I need to get organized before I can post the rest.  Until then, here’s another look into my insta-life.  Why is Instagram truly the best?!  I love seeing people’s photos of where they are and what they are doing.  Not to mention, the filters can make some photos spectacular.  Some of these photos however are just iPhone photos and not instagrammed.  Happy Wednesday!

Delicious coffees on Haight St.

The new guy I’m working with is adorable!

Thank god for daylight savings time.  I love evening walks when the weather is still nice like this.

I’ll tell you a secret, there’s no secrets this year

4 May

Well there’s never any secrets with me to be honest but this year has been pretty life changing for me in many ways.  I’ve been all over the map and indulging in as much music, friendship/family time, travel, horseback riding and fun as possible.  One thing is for sure and that’s I’m not going to deny myself good times with the amazing people in my life.  Here’s another instagram post about my life as of late and the things that make me happy – Friday being one of them 🙂

Naturally, Coachella was life changing.

A small M83 show my work put together.  They sound SO good live.

Our family’s beautiful golden turned 11 years old this year!

I recorded with some great friend’s on an album!  Just a small part but I’m sure I’ll post it when it’s finished.  Definitely not something I’d ever thought I’d do but it was way fun!

NEON INDIAN!!!  Tahoe friends came down and we danced the night away to this AMAZING band.

I won some awesome jewelry from SF based LITTER.  I’ll be doing a shoot soon to showcase how much I love their stuff so hopefully I’ll be able to do it this weekend and post about it next week : )

Love this one.  We have very domestic date nights which consist of target nights, crafting and making dinners.

We. Met. Wally. from Gotye…. and he was the most adorable man.  He even invited us to his show which was a great live show.  I really love the Making Mirrors album.

Craft store perusing.

Lots of park lounging at lunch time.

Summer hair = no brushing allowed.  Time to be carefree for a few months 🙂

Inspire yourself.  I find quotes like this give me an extra push on some days.

We had an album listen of Rebecca Ferguson from the UK.  She’s about to launch an entire US press tour so you may not have heard of her but you will.  She’s extremely talented and I won’t forget her voice.

Our friend Rani is moving back to Texas 😦  I’ll miss her but now have a new travel destination of interest.  ❤

The weather is warming up in Northern CA!  I see more surf days in my future..

Wayne Brady stops by one of our stations.

A successful craft night with Chels.

It’s baseball season and any chance to spend outside with friends and family is a guaranteed good time.

Of course, you can’t forget about half of my heart.  Horses will be a good portion of my summer.

You might be able to find me here on warm days.

Friendship

25 Apr

I know in my last post I talked a little bit about Emily and the friendship we’ve maintain for now *gasp* twelve years.  It seems so weird to put a number to the time and definitely doesn’t feel like that long.  We’ve been through the waves of motion in life and haven’t always lived right next door to each other (even though that’s how it began) but we’ve always been able to pick up right where we left off.  I’ve been really aware of the amazing people in my life lately and I really hope they know how much I appreciate them.  I try to tell them as much as possible and I appreciate them all more than they will probably ever know.  It’s so important to keep the strong, supportive and FUN people in your life.  Fun is contagious and there’s absolutely no reason to stop the good times with the people you care for.

Now onto the good stuff, here’s some more photos that Em and I took while down at the lake over the weekend.  It’s a continuation of sorts from yesterdays post 🙂

Coffee together is always the best.  Tahoe House in Tahoe City is one of the best bakeries and coffee shops in between the North and West shores of Tahoe.

Being silly.  We literally might be the most silly people when we get together.

Naturally, we also bond over music.  Em was making a playlist for our lake lounging.

I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom I read yesterday.  Another great friend, Chelsea, sent me this link to a bunch of motivational and inspiring quotes and there was one I wanted to share.  Every now and then it’s nice to read something that can empower you at the start of your day.  Happy Wednesday!

What a crazy week it has been!  I’ve been so busy just trying to accomplish everything before I head to Coachella next weekend and time has been flying faster than ever.  I can’t wait for it to slow back down over the weekend.  Some great news though, I won the LITTER contest!!!  I’m so so so excited about it and want to thank you if you helped me get there 🙂  I can’t wait to share it all on my blog!  Until then, here’s some of my “insta-life” lately.  Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

New York, New York

24 Feb

I have hundreds of photos from my East Coast trip that I’ve been trying to sort through and lots of great things to come this weekend.  For now, I’ve managed to get through sorting some of my New York photos and here they are.  Enjoy!

There are people just pushing these carts down the middle of the street everywhere.  It’s pretty funny.

The park by the statue of liberty.

Hop on, hop off.

I absolutely love street art like this.

Eyes in the sky.

Shannon and I at Carrie Bradshaw’s house in the village.

I love arch-ways in architecture.

More filming.

Old cars and taxis for the movie or show they were filming!

We stayed in the Garment District where there were all kinds of fabric stores everywhere for all of the fashion/art students.

This was really special.  They were hand made tiles in memory of the 9/11 victims attached to a car lot fence.

I love my friends so much.

Brunch downtown at a cozy diner.

They are so cute : )

Press.

Something I’ve realize over the past few weeks is the importance of friends, family and time.  Time is the best gift you can give somebody because you will never be able to get it back.  Make sure you give it to the right people.

And with that said, don’t take any moment of your healthy life for granted.  Have a wonderful weekend and I hope you do something well worth your time : )!

Reflections and Grand Central (part 2)

23 Feb

Jumping back into work after a pretty rough week hasn’t been the easiest.  This past weekend, we lost a very treasured co-worker and someone I considered a very special mentor.  She approved my hire when I first began in San Francisco radio in 2008 and showed me how to be confident in my skills I was gaining along the way.  She also showed me how to go after what I wanted and I attribute my forever gratitude to her for pushing me to go after what I wanted in this industry.  I really owe her my two promotions because whenever I wanted something, I’d go to her office and she would ask me if I got the next promotion, then what would I be looking at next.  She had me always striving for the next best thing because that would make me who I am in what I do.  I can’t be more thankful for that.  Not to mention she was very funny and amazing at what she did.  Although her special light has gone out, it won’t leave us forever.  Every big event she has pulled off over the years will continue to scream her name and no one could ever forget her.

I’m going to continue to post photos from New York as I get the energy to.  It was a really great trip despite coming home to not the best news.  I do want to share it with you all and I am so thankful for anyone who even read this post 🙂

Man walking in the windows of Grand Central Terminal.

I swear NY is one big filming set.  Everywhere we went we saw things being filmed!  We even saw what we think was Boardwalk Empire being filmed in the Village.

The marble was insanely gorgeous.

Besides feeling like I was being eaten by sky scrapers in the downtown area, I loved the reflections of the other sky scrapers in downtown NY and had a fascination with taking photos of just reflections.

I love this one.

This was actually my first picture the I took in NY.

You really can’t escape these huge buildings.  It’s definitely an extraordinary sight to see.
