What happens when the Sun goes down

6 Sep

Earlier in the week, I talked about the amazing night time adventure I had with Emily and Matt up to the top of Watson Peak in North Lake Tahoe to watch the sun drop and the moon come up.  I snapped a bunch of photos and here they are!

This was the moon on my drive up to Tahoe, the night before our ATV adventures.

Our awesome driver, Matt!

The sun slowly dropping.

Huge tree uprooted!

Beautiful.

I love all the shadows.

Matt climbing some boulders on the ATV.

Watson Peak.

I love these two!

Sun flare.

The sun was almost all the way down which left this gorgeous pink afterglow.

The moon slowly started creeping up.

You got the whole moon in your hand.

Lights started sparkling on all around the lake.  It was gorgeous.

Did everyone else catch the full moon last week?  Where did you see it?

Make a wish. Make it count.

I tend to gauge my life on “moments” where I can recount back and remember exact moments and feelings I had at a specific time.  Cheesy as it may be, it’s these moments that change my life in one way or another.  This past year has been a year of moments and growth in my life and it’s been my friends and family standing by my side that have really given me the courage to finally go full throttle on life experiences.  Working in such a bustling city has been so inspiring but it’s also the moments when I am in the middle of nowhere with two of my best friends that I can find inspiration as well.

This past weekend, I was up with Emily and Matt in Tahoe.  We decided to go on a nighttime adventure to the top of the nearest peak to watch the sun go down and the extremely large moon come up.  It was insanely beautiful and I felt so lucky to be there with my friends.  I have some great photos to share from it this week but on the way up to the top of the peak, we stopped in this gorgeous meadow where Emily found the one and only dandelion.  I love that she loves photos too so she let me snap some photos of her and I just love how they came out.  When I was little if you found a dandelion, you would pluck it and blow all of the petals off of the stem to make a wish.  The idea of making a wish is so simple and almost magical because although we all know that wishes don’t just typically happen, it’s a lot of hard work usually that pays off to get a certain reward.

After this dandelion turned to just a stem, we searched and searched this meadow for another one.  We could not find another one anywhere.  Em managed to find the only dandelion.  It was beautiful and a sign of the seasons changing.  I thought I’d want to hang on to this summer forever since it’s been such a great one but I’m actually looking forward to the Fall.  Pumpkin, Ginger, hooded sweatshirts, and most of all the changing of all the colors outdoors.  It’s transitional and beautiful.

Next time you find a dandelion, pick it up and make a wish.  It’s the little things and moments that count 🙂

How to enjoy the California snow when it’s Spring time

26 Apr

Well with the warm weather upon us and summer on the verge, you can still enjoy snow in the sunshine.  On Saturday, we headed to Squaw early morning for lots of runs and then the pool and lake in the afternoon.

Matt and Em!

The later in the day it got, the heavier and slushier the snow got.

They have some awesome lake views at Squaw.

For a weekend, there was hardly anyone there.

After our day at Squaw, we headed to a friends house on the lake.  They had the most amazing grassy yard and this incredible pier to lounge on.

The scenery at the lake NEVER gets old.

It was a perfect 75 degrees.

On Sunday, my friends and I hit Mt. Rose on snowmobiles to enjoy one of the last weekends before all of the snow melts.  However, they had a decent amount of snow up there!  It was very warm though, when not riding we were in t-shirts and tank tops.  It was more than a blast and I snapped a ton of photos along the way.

Climbing.

She’s tiny but she’s so strong.

The boys were launching.

Scoping.

Relaxing.

Balance.

We’d snowmobile for a while and then take a break to relax.  Then head back out again.  It was perfect.

One of the guys got a little stuck and had to roll his sled out of this predicament.  It was pretty entertaining to watch.

The sled rolling down the hill.

I’m not sure what was happening at this point in time.  Two sleds sliding.

Perfect skies.

We made a few marks in the snow on Sunday.

I wouldn’t have had it any other way 🙂

I’ve saved the best for last tomorrow.  We found a pond to skim while snowmobiling and things got a little crazy.  I have some AWESOME photos to share of it tomorrow to close out the week : )

Friendship

25 Apr

I know in my last post I talked a little bit about Emily and the friendship we’ve maintain for now *gasp* twelve years.  It seems so weird to put a number to the time and definitely doesn’t feel like that long.  We’ve been through the waves of motion in life and haven’t always lived right next door to each other (even though that’s how it began) but we’ve always been able to pick up right where we left off.  I’ve been really aware of the amazing people in my life lately and I really hope they know how much I appreciate them.  I try to tell them as much as possible and I appreciate them all more than they will probably ever know.  It’s so important to keep the strong, supportive and FUN people in your life.  Fun is contagious and there’s absolutely no reason to stop the good times with the people you care for.

Now onto the good stuff, here’s some more photos that Em and I took while down at the lake over the weekend.  It’s a continuation of sorts from yesterdays post 🙂

Coffee together is always the best.  Tahoe House in Tahoe City is one of the best bakeries and coffee shops in between the North and West shores of Tahoe.

Being silly.  We literally might be the most silly people when we get together.

Naturally, we also bond over music.  Em was making a playlist for our lake lounging.

I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom I read yesterday.  Another great friend, Chelsea, sent me this link to a bunch of motivational and inspiring quotes and there was one I wanted to share.  Every now and then it’s nice to read something that can empower you at the start of your day.  Happy Wednesday!

Silhouettes

24 Apr

While in Tahoe last weekend with nothing but perfect weather, I got to spend time with some of my best friends.  Emily and I headed down to the lake one morning with coffees, catching up on life and snapping some photos.  It’s so nice to spend time with genuine friends that you don’t get to see in your everyday life.  Emily is one of the most beautiful people I know inside and out and not to mention has modeled for companies like Apple.  Needless to say, these photos of her are flawless!  I have a few more to post later in the week.

This is my absolute fav0rite of her.

I’ve never seen the lake more calm.

Tahoe has half of my heart.  I would love to have a place in Tahoe and in the city.  I miss these views every morning but now whenever I go up there, I appreciate every second I spend there.

Geese.

Out on the pier.

I just love her.

Beach strolling.

Em snapped a few photos, too.  She likes photography as well and actually has her own blog here.

I have many more Tahoe photos from my weekend with her and Matt to post this week so I’ll continue to post this week 🙂

We got it all right here

23 Apr

I’ve been a little M.I.A from blogging lately because I’ve had a lot going on with work and travels but I’m going to be the come back kid this week and hopefully get back in gear!  Coachella was naturally one of the most amazing weekends and it was followed up by another amazing weekend in Tahoe.  Above is me and one of my best friends Em just having fun on a pier in Tahoe.  It was the most amazing weather this weekend and Em and her husband, Matt, are some of the best people I know.  We always have such a good time together and I’ll see Em again when we head to the Neon Indian show in SF this week.  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and I look forward to catching up on your blogs as well 🙂

Is winter finally on it’s way to the Sierras?!

12 Mar

I spent the weekend with my friends in Tahoe again and it was beyond beautiful.  It’s a tad eerie though, the lacking amount of snow that they have for this time of year.  After a sunny, beautiful snowboarding day at Sugarbowl on Saturday just playing in the slush, we took a scenic route home winding down towards Donner Lake.

The views of Donner Lake are so beautiful.

After a fun filled snowboard day on Saturday, we headed to Reno for another Monster Truck show!  We are on a roll, these things are literally so awesome.  However, we didn’t realize how good we had it last time when we saw them in Oakland.  The Reno venue was much smaller which didn’t allow for any rolls or mass destruction of machinery.  They did have much better in-between racing which included little dune trucks and dirt bike jumping!  I’ll post pictures from that soon 🙂

On Sunday, I enjoyed a nice lunch with Em and then went to the Lake to shoot some photos of the storm coming in.  The colors really light up and contrast over amazing Lake Tahoe.  I think there may actually be some snow finally coming in this week and that’s great news for Tahoe.  I can’t wait to see and hear what becomes of this upcoming storm!

At this point, little snow pellets were flying towards me as the winds picked up.

It’s weird to see sand and not snow on the beaches this time of year!

Hopefully there is a huge storm about to blanket the Sierras and if so you bet I’ll be back there to make some turns and take some photos.

Sorry about my post on Friday, I was trying to embed the Kony 2012 video but was having technical difficulties.  None the less, check it out – it’s pretty amazing the change one person can make.

Happy Monday!

The top of a beautiful blue world

7 Feb

While spending the weekend with Emily and Matt in Tahoe, they were nice enough to take me out on their snowmobiles which is always a good time!  I love getting to go snowmobiling with them because it’s one of their true passions and they are both so good at it.  It’s also so liberating flying through the woods with the wind in your face and the Lake by your side.  One of the stops we made was at Watson Peak and it was incredibly beautiful.  I really had the best time enjoying the outdoors this weekend with these two.

There hasn’t been fresh snow in a while but it got very chilly at night.  They need a new snow very badly but they’ve got the temperatures at night for it.  During the day was too warm but it sure was beautiful.

We took the sleds up to the top peak of Northstar to enjoy a drink and some food and of course the nice day.

Toys.  Emily and Matt have the most fun garage of anyone I know.

I just love her!

I’ve missed my friends!

From Northstar we headed to Watson Peak which was just unreal.  I used to live where I could see this lake everyday and I can’t believe I don’t anymore.  It’s so incredibly beautiful and my opinion of that never changes no matter what the weather or angle I’m looking at it.

Em and Matt’s friend Ryan came along with us for the day, too!  His girlfriend, Kim, was working for the day so what better way to kill time than go for this beautiful snowmobile ride and he has quite the sled.  I’ll be sharing that in one of my next few posts.

One of the most fun days I’ve had in a while.  I have so much more to share from this weekend so I’ll continue to post more photos throughout the week.  Until then, enjoy!

I had missed this place too much

Over the past weekend I had the chance to spend some quality time with two of my favorite people, Emily and Matt.  We had so much fun taking in the outdoors and relaxing while catching up.  Quality time with good friends has seemed to be the perfect medicine lately 🙂

I’m on a boat!

16 Sep

Well OK not anymore but the thing is lately I’ve been grasping so tightly to any idea of summer that I put myself in aquatic settings whenever possible.  We got to go out on my grandpa’s boat last weekend in Tahoe and it was a wonderful time.  I often dream about being on a boat while I’m at work haha it sounds so silly but I just love water.  I love swimming, boating, floating, anything to do with water – count me in!

Leaving the harbor

Heading out!

View of the beach from the boat.
Me and my cousin Kari, reunited!

You get to see some of the most amazing Lake front properties from the water.  I would like to own one of these in the future.

The entrance of Emerald Cove.

Ian being Ian 🙂

My cousin and Uncle in from Iowa and Arizona!

Eagle nests on the Lake!  We didn’t see any eagles sadly but saw a ton of their nests, they are HUGE!

My other cousin, in from Iowa, and Darrin 🙂

The Viking Island.

This entire weekend was amazing.  I’m so happy for my brother and Liz.  I will post wedding photos soon!
