I always find myself back here

18 Jul

So many things going on lately, I’ve been too busy to ride for a few weeks.  Being busy has been a wonderful thing except for the fact that I couldn’t squeeze in some barn time.  I can’t go too long without getting out to the barn and no matter what, I always find myself back here.

Here is now and now is where I want to be

14 Mar

Some Instagram photos and some just straight from my iPhone with no filters.  Haven’t done one of these in a while so I thought I’d share some more photos from on the go.  Here’s a look at things I’ve liked or found interesting over the past month or so.

First flight on Virgin America was colorful 🙂

Cute idea for a mini arrangement.  This was a mini glass with mini roses.  Adorable.

It’s not perfect but I finally have figured out how to draw on my own nails.

My night rides.

Found a cool, extreme (and hidden) Ping Pong bar in the mission district of SF.  Pretty awesome spot.

Loving these braided and bright bracelets from Express.  Both me and Chelsea had to have them.

A dripping sunrise on the way to work.

Lights, lights and more lights.

Crepes on Haight St in San Francisco.

Em relaxing on the Phazer…

Pretty skies.

My favorite, Grand Central Station – New York.

Brandy Melville rings.

Enjoying New York pizza!

Hartford, Connecticut.

Through the window photo of the building above in Hartford.

Hiking in Northern California.

Love this area in Golden Gate Park.

Sugarbowl with Emily.

Em at the top of the Judah side of Sugarbowl.

Top of the De Young museum in San Francisco.

Taking photos of Chelsea and her shadows 🙂

Lunch lounging.  Nothing better in the middle of a work day.

I’ll try to do these more often.  They are such a great reflection on places I’ve been and great things I’ve seen.  Have a great day!

Music Monday, some weekend keepers and a preview for the upcoming week!

13 Feb

The past week has been quite the week for new music in my world.  With two new previews of some top albums about to drop, my ears have been on sensory overload in the best way possible.

First, James Mercer from the Shins stopped by to play an intimate set show casing some of his new songs off the Shins album to be released (Port of Morrow) in the next month or so.  He played “September” and “Simple Song” off of the new album which were both equally tranquil and beautiful.  I can’t wait to hear the rest of the songs live at Coachella!

Last night was pretty special as well.  If you had any connection to ’90s music then you would know The Cranberries “Linger” or “Zombie” in a heartbeat.  They played those two hits as well as some new songs off of their new album “Roses” to drop next month (it was supposed to be this month but has been pushed back).  I really like “Tomorrow” off of the new album.  It speaks volumes and man oh man does Dolores O’Riordan have some Irish iron lungs.  They sound absolutely fantastic and I continue to look forward to the new album.  One of our radio stations, Alice 97.3, hosted them at a small intimate show at San Francisco’s Infusion Lounge.

I spent a good deal of time at the barn on Saturday just enjoying the day time hours and hanging with the horses.  I guess I’m still that little kid at heart that likes to go out to the barn and spend half my day there.  There’s something so refreshing and peaceful about it.

This isn’t a horse I ride but the way the light was hitting her while the sun was going down was so beautiful!

The rest of this week’s blog posts will be mine and Chelsea’s rendition of San Francisco’s fashion week.  Since it’s New York fashion week right now and I’m headed there Thursday night (not to fashion week but from some leisurely travel), we thought we’d show some of our favorite trends right now to get me ready for the big apple :).

The most beautiful site the storm brought to me

4 Jan

Once Ian and I had gotten snowed in and grounded from flying, Ian’s mom Frida was so kind to find a way to make it possible for me to see horses in the snow which has been a long time wish of mine.  It was such a great experience seeing the horses outside in the snow running free.  I thought they might be cold in the snow but they looked as content as ever with even a small snow blanket on.  This is something I wish every animal lover could see in person.  Frida got me a horse photography book for Christmas and I was in love with a photo in the book of this one horse in the snow.  Little did I know I’d get my own chance to practice shooting one of my favorite subjects in the entire world in one of the most beautiful settings – snow!  My fingers were cold from shooting but it was beyond worth it!

Frida’s friend’s who owned the farm were nice enough to let us come out and check out their barns/horses.  One of them, Jason, gave us a wonderful tour and introduced us to all of the animals around the barn.  How lucky they are to live on this amazing farm.  They work very hard to keep it as beautiful as it is.

There’s always barn cats around and their barn cats were friendlier than ever.

This horse, Trigger, was a breed I’d never heard of before, a Colorado Mountain horse.  He was so beautiful.

Frida up close and personal with one of the horses 🙂

Then we met Daisy, the mini horse of a lifetime.  Such a cute mini!

Daisy and one of the barn cats.

Ian letting the horses smell him.  Always the best thing to do when first meeting a horse.

Sweet Daisy.

Beautiful.

This horse was a rescue.  He was very happy in his pasture with the snow coming down.

I just loved the colors and setting of this photo.

It was such a wonderful experience to go out and see these horses in the snow.  I was so thankful to Frida for taking me out there, Jason for showing us around, and Ian for being a champ in the freezing with a cold.  I can’t wait to go back next time I’m there and see these beautiful horses again.  I have so many more wonderful Michigan snow pictures from my trip that I can’t wait to post throughout this week and next.

Enjoy!

New man in my life? How to make positive changes

7 Dec

OK, so the title of this post is a little mis-leading but there is truth to it.  I’ve been in love with horses since I was a little girl and have done everything in my power to be involved with them.  I’ve worked with a lot with people’s horses who have behavioral issues or just need a tune-up every now and then.  I do horse photo shoots for people. I’ve horse sat, I’ve shaved horses for people in the summer when they haven’t shed their winter coats yet.  Working with other people’s horses has fulfilled my horse love to an extent but there has always been a piece missing since I had to put my horse down 4 years ago.  I’ve realized recently I need the companionship and bond back with just one horse.  That trust building and working together to achieve something.  That bond after a long training session of just enjoying the open rolling hills together.  That enjoyment of each others company even though you may not be able to have verbal conversations the way you would with another human.

So… enter Spot!

This is the new “man” in my life 🙂

I’m going to be working with him 3-4 times a week out of my choice and not for money.  For pure happiness and enjoyment.  The opportunity had never really presented itself but if it had, Spot would have been my first choice to work with.  He’s sweet and extremely talented.  We will learn a lot together and he will now probably be making regular appearances on my blog.

Do you have a hobby that makes you happy?  I’d love to hear!  Also, make sure you always keep it in your life.  It’s so important to not lose the things that make you happiest.  Just look for the balance and don’t always sell your soul for money 🙂  Someday, I’d eventually like to have a horse therapy center where people going through a hard time can come and heal while learning how to care for horses.  It’s amazing what these animals can give you once you learn to trust them.

Also, I’ll be very busy these next four or so days.  I’m shooting one of our big concerts on Friday with Mumford and Sons, Jane’s Addiction, Young the Giant, Bush, AND FLORENCE!!!!  Can we say my dreams have come true?!?!  I might not post much until next week but do come back next week as I will have MANY great photo posts to come.  It also reminds me to look at your blogs because I really do LOVE reading your posts!

My Saturday ride

18 Sep

I hadn’t been to the barn in about two weeks with all the wedding festivities so yesterday was my first day back and wow did it feel good to get back in the saddle.  I’m feeling the soreness today though.  You forget how many muscles you use riding (even though many who do NOT ride, beg to differ).  Today my back, shoulders, thighs and more are feeling the burn.  Above is a mare from my barn who I rode yesterday.  I took her out on the trail first to just get out of the arena.  If you ride dressage you know how much time you spend in a dressage court and how nice it can be to get out sometimes.  I’m spending today lounging and recovering but I’ll be back in the saddle on Tuesday 🙂  I’ll try to take some more photos then of the horses.  They are the most beautiful animal, I just can’t get enough.
