Waimea

2 Dec

One day we decided to head over to Waimea to see the falls.  You have to hike back through the gardens to get to the waterfall though where there were so many different species that scientist can’t even estimate how many are in the garden-forest area.

Huge lily pads!

These were not all true, at least on the day we went.

These leaves were HUGE!

Walls of ivy.

Looking up.

Pathways.

The falls.

The classic Hawaiian Hibiscus!

At the end there were peacocks!  There were a few of these large, beautiful birds just walking around.  I wanted to just reach out and pet one but the entire area is somewhat of a reserve so I figured I probably shouldn’t.  They are incredible though.  I loved them 🙂

Waimea is right by Haliewa where we stopped to see the surf comp.  The gardens were beautiful and all but I wouldn’t say it’s a must see of Hawaii.  It’s $15 to get in and just do the walk to the falls that you can’t even jump off of which was the whole point of going in the first place.  It’s extremely beautiful and if you are just looking to go shoot photos or walk around, this would be the place to do it.  In Waimea they also have a famous beach across the road known for it’s extreme shore break and is worth seeing.  Hawaii is truly magical and this might wrap up my Hawaii posts but I might sneak one in next week with all my extra photos just to reminisce again about my wonderful time last week 🙂

Nighttiming – I’ve been trying to work on long exposures

30 Nov

I was playing around with long exposures in Hawaii because I think great ones are phenomenal, especially star circles.  Mine are far from fantastic but I had fun cruising around and shooting these photos!  I took many at the new Disneyland resort, the Aulani.  It’s pretty incredible in the pool resort area.  Anyways, enjoy and any good tips on long exposures is greatly appreciated 🙂

The sun starting to set.  This was about a 10 second exposure.

Walking to the Aulani.  The white building is the JW Marriott in Ko Olina.

More Aulani pool.

Aulani infinity spas.

View from my Aunt and Unlce’s.  During the day you can see the ocean perfectly.  What if everyday you woke up to that?  It’d be beautiful!

Hanging around – why not spend a non-traditional Thanksgiving in Hawaii?!

More pictures from my getaway last week 🙂

Hawaiian Skies

28 Nov

OK, since I have the obsession with taking pictures of sunrises, sunsets, cool cloud patterns, etc. I thought I’d start my week of Hawaii posts off with some shots I snapped of the Hawaiian skies.  I do have to say that the colors in Hawaii are next level beautiful.  The skies are so blue and the sun so red, making for some of the most perfect sunrise and sunsets I’ve ever seen.  Enjoy and Happy Monday :-)!

Another Samurai sun!

It was only fitting that on my flight home I witnessed thee most un-real sunrise I have ever seen.

Zoomed out version of the photo above.

The light was shining right on Waikiki beach.

I have so many more blogs to come.  I’m rejuvenated and ready to get back to work as the new re-inspired (if that’s even a word) me 🙂  I promise I won’t include any sunrise or sunset photos in the next Hawaii posts, I just can’t help but love them.

Reef Hawaiian Pro on the North Shore

27 Nov

While in Hawaii, there was a huge series of surf contests happening on the famed North Shore.  I’ve always wanted to see one but the swell never seemed to work in my favor of days that I could make it.  It was really cool to see!  The water can be completely flat one minute and then come to life with huge swells the next.  Here are a few of my photos from the Reef Hawaiian Pro last week.

Here’s the next heat paddling out!

Next week will be a week of Hawaii posts since I have so many photos from the trip and didn’t share any last week 🙂

Welcome to Vacation!

Hawaiian sunset

I haven’t really been able to blog since I’ve been here but I thought I’d put a few pics up.  I have SO many to share and can’t wait to update my blog when I get back.  This place is amazing and I’m finding myself enjoying the downtime more than ever before : )

I’m a week away

10 Nov

(photo cred)

I can’t stop thinking about it.  Can it be now?  I need some serious brain relaxation, surfing, and ocean dwelling.  It’s been a crazy work week.  I’m ready.

Travel Thursdays!

29 Sep

I’ve just come up with this new idea for my blog to do Travel Thursdays.  Every Thursday, I will write about a great place that I’ve been and that I think is worthy of a visit : )

To start off my first Travel Thursday, I’m going to write about Hawaii since that will be my next bigger adventure.  I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii with some of my family and Ian.  I love spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii because it seems so wrong but right to be barbequing on Thanksgiving with your toes in the sand.  Very non-traditional but so nice to be care free on an island in the middle of the Pacific.

The beach outside my family’s condo.

I’m just a beginner but I can’t wait to do some more surfing.  I always like to go when in Hawaii because the water is so warm and the views are beyond breathtaking.  My brother likes to surf as well so when he comes along, we go out together.  I often wipe out simply because I get memorized watching all the fish swimming beneath me in the wake.

I saw a turtle while snorkeling just off the rocks here!  They are common in Hawaii but do not touch them.  It’s harmful to the animal and highly illegal.  Not like anyone would ever see you but if they do, it’s a huge fine.

I love hiking to hidden beaches.  There are little public coves like this all over the islands.

Lounging with the family : )  I love just being able to hang out with my family in Hawaii.  I’m really lucky that my family likes to all come here together.  We have a blast together!

Ohhh yes and the sunset are unreal…

Enjoy the water slides at the resorts!  Here’s my cousin : )  We had a lapping contest, look out pool goers!

View from above of part of the pool at the Marriott in Ko ‘olina.

Find some shade and relax, enjoy the views, and/or read.

Not a great picture at all but the sushi with the fresh fish in Hawaii is out of this world!  One of my favorite sushi spots is Sensei Sushi on the Maui island!

You can go boating!  My aunt and uncle live in Hawaii (on Oahu) and they take us to wake surf, boat, tube, and much more out on their boat.  We’ve seen turtles from the boat and also some amazing waterfront, out of this world, estates.

Relax in a calming lagoon.  Some resorts have lagoons without the waves that are very safe for really little kids or just loungers.

If you get the chance to go to Hawaii, explore as much as you can.  It’s one of the most wonderful places in the world 🙂
