Just like the old days

11 Sep

When I was younger, I spent hours on end out at the barn.  I was able to relive this a few weeks ago when shooting some photos for fun.  Chelsea and I wanted to shoot some pretty horse fashion photos with our great photography friend, Henry.  I’ve seen so many beautiful ones out there and I had in mind soft images at sun down but then we ended up with some crazy photos during twilight as well.  It’s best to have the crazy ideas and then try to just put them to life.  Sometimes you get what you want.  Sometimes you get more.

My friend from the barn, Lynn, was so kind to let us use her beautiful horse Amante for the shoot.  He was such a trooper and for a few extra cookies behaved extra well for us.

I took a broken bracelet and made a hand piece out of it!

Keeping the talent happy 🙂

I don’t know what it is about horses but they are just amazing.

Then the sun went behind the hills.  Here’s Chels with Amante.  She was really good with him considering she has no horse handling experience.  She’s very calm and he really liked her.  I have a few exceptional shots of her and him that we will post on I.F.L.

I love this one.

It was a full moon.  I can’t believe how light these photos came out because it was pretty dark out by this point.

This was so fun to play around with lighting and exposures out at the barn.  It’s definitely more challenging working with an animal but we were lucky to have a very well behaved horse with us.  I also love that no matter how crazy my ideas are, Chelsea and Henry are always game to help make them happen.

Chelsea and I have recently decided to put all of our shenanigans out there in a new blog, IFL Blog.  It’s more stories and musings than just simply photos.  However, we do keep up with the photos as well.  I can’t tell you how hard I laugh sometimes at the things that end up popping up on that blog and the things to come.  It’s been keeping us busy and I’m excited to keep it going!

Times like these

28 Aug

This weekend was extremely productive for me.  I caught up on some much needed rest and I worked on another blog project I’ll be taking part of soon.  I can’t wait until it goes live, it’s such a cool and funny blog with other creative outlets.  It’s so fun working with other people.  I love combining ideas and seeing things from a different perspective!  Anyway until then, below is one of the photos my fabulous photographer friend Henry shot for the new blog project.

I also shot some fashion photos of the beautiful Chelsea that came out STUNNING!  I can’t wait to share those as well.  Have a great week 😀

DIY Outdoor Wire Chandelier

24 Jul

Chels and I were perusing some stores the other day and free people had these amazingly, unexpected chandeliers hanging all over the store.  We started really looking at them and realized they could be easily made.  Since I’ve been working on my outdoor space little by little, I thought this would be a fantastic addition to that area.  I found this chandelier to be the perfect mixture of delicate and interesting.  This DIY is made of things that are subject to change depending on your taste but the staple things I needed were:

Wire (I used jewelry wire because I liked how thin it was)
Hot glue
String or fishing wire to hang
Floral arrangements and/or Beads, Feathers, etc.

I picked these two pieces out of the floral section of the local art store.

I cut the flower heads off of the bundle with about an inch of stem.  I then twisted the wire around the remaining stem and placed hot glue along the stem and wire.  I spread the flowers out evenly.

I then went through and twisted the jewels (which I cut with about 2-3 inches of string so they could dangle at different lengths) in between the flower sections.

The wire started out coiled so I pulled it apart so it was this sort of whimsical twist.

I twisted the two ends of the wire together and hung it from the post of my overhang.

This took maybe 10-15 minutes at most after collecting the pieces to create this outdoor chandelier.  I love it and when the weather starts to turn, I’ll just bring it inside and hang it somewhere inside 🙂

Comment with any questions and I’d be glad to help!

Colors in your hair

26 Jun

I’ve had so much to blog about but so little time lately.  I’m getting ready to head down to the X-games this weekend to shoot some photos and check out all of the amazing-ness that it ensues.  This week, I’ve been trying to get my zen back and just decompress a little bit.  I’ve been working on sleeping at least 8 hours each night and working out after work.  It feels good to take a week to focus on my health and sleeping patterns 🙂

Last week, I had been contemplating putting some fun colors in my hair.  I’ve been seeing them in people’s hair for a while now and never thought it’d go well in my hair but a co-worker/friend of mine had some great colors that she had in her hair.  After asking her about it, she explained the dye (Manic Panic) and how easy it was to put in.  I was curious and sold at this point so she let me borrow her blue and purple.  It will wash out in 10-20 washes so it’s not permanent.  Sounded like the perfect chance to try.  If you’re thinking about it, this is the perfect option because you don’t have to worry about it being stuck on there forever if you don’t like it.  I also intertwined it in the under pieces of my hair so that when I tuck it back, it’s only noticeable in the ends.

Soft Summer

1 Jun

When shooting for this post, we were testing places and lighting where I snapped the below photos of Chelsea.  I thought I’d share them because they are so soft and beautiful and I love lower backed dresses.  She’s also so easy to shoot because every photo turns up beautiful and effortless.  I love my partner in crime, she’s always up for the crazy adventures that get thrown our way.  If you will be at BFD this weekend, look for us because GoPro is strapping cameras on us for the ultimate concert experiences.  Pretty awesome things to come.  Oh yes and HAPPY FRIDAY! 🙂

I love the back of this dress!  This number is from Forever 21 as is usually everything we wear.  That store is the best.

I love this photo!  She does a really great job of being in front of the camera.  I am the complete opposite.  Although most photos on my blog of me look composed, it usually takes a long while to get there.  I’m much more comfortable behind the camera.

Neon Indian Summer

30 May

There’s something about the warmer weather that makes me want to dress in brighter colors.  Chelsea and I had a fun time mix and matching neons and soft colors to put this post together.  I also love anything with a Native American twist.  Alas, Neon Indian Summer…

Chelsea in F21 top, sandals and skirt.

Love the bows on the back.

F21 neon sandals. SO cute!

These two brights go so well together.

You could even pop this with heels.  Some nice summer sandal wedges.

I love this neon pink jacket for summer coverage (F21 blazer, dress, and Urban Outfitters sandals)

For daytime, I threw the Native American inspired tunic over a neon green swim top to put with the hot pink jacket.  It’s subtle but the perfect summer bbq color combination.

I also love racer back tops for summer.  They show a little extra skin and allow a more casual feel.

Ring from Topshop in NY.

For night time, you can add some earrings, heels and leggings to dress it up a bit and stay warm through the cold currents we get here in the city.

Urban Outfitters shoes.  I can’t tell you how comfortable I find Urban Outfitters shoes to be.  You know when you find the ones that fit like a glove?  That’s how I feel about every pair I’ve bought from them.

I always find that if you’re going to wear heels with a shorter tunic/dress, you must wear leggings.  Without leggings, sandals are a much better fit.

I find bold jackets are always a difficult decision to buy because you don’t know how much you will wear them but if you buy them at Forever 21 they are guilt free and I wear mine more than I ever thought I would.  It’s perfect for days when you don’t want to leave without one.  Also, with the amount of black and white that I have in my closet this jacket always adds a good pop 🙂

Happy colorful summer everyone!

Makeshift make up

25 May

Whenever I’m on the go, I’m usually dolled down.  For the rare occasion that I’m going to need to jazz it up a bit and don’t have time to go home, I’ve often had to create eyeliner and lipstick out of random other make up and people have often asked me how.  I thought I’d share this helpful tip and may it help you at some point in time 🙂

I’ve determined you can make anything out of chapstick. Any kind really, unless it’s a plumper or something that tingles.  I’d stay away from those and even better yet I usually use ones with SPF in them.

For eyeliner, I shave off some chapstick and mix with whatever color eye shadow I have.  For the above photo, I used carbon (black) from Mac make up but I’ve used greens, dark blues, and browns.  You can also use lighter colors if you like that look.

I’ve also done this with lip stick.  I’ll take a pretty colored eyeshadow and swirl some in a sliver of chapstick and voila!  You can also put a gloss on top of the make shift lipstick to give the glossy/polished look.

I hope this chapstick tip finds you handy at some point.  Now here’s a preview of next week’s fashion post with Chelsea.  Lots of great details.

Happy Friday everybody!  Have a wonderful holiday weekend and remember what Memorial Day is for ❤
