Waikiki is for lovers

1 Dec

We spent a day cruising around Waikiki and of course I shot some photos.  It’s so interesting to see huge skyscrapers right down on one of the most beautiful beaches overlooking Diamond Head.  Anyway, here’s my take in pictures of Waikiki/Honolulu over the holiday!

Beach walk.

Diamond Head.

You know my love for modern architecture… this building was very interesting!

Surf boards and Christmas wreaths, I love it!

One of my favorite parts of the day!  We walked by this shop that had high windows and when the dog heard us he came running to window to greet us.  His tongue I’m pretty was stuck outside of his mouth though so it gave him an adorable “flaw.”

I’m sure he has to be really well known in the Honolulu area.  He’s too damn cute to not notice!

We also walked around the Royal Hawaiian which was BEAUTIFUL.

Pillars and columns everywhere.  I love symmetry in architecture and the Royal Hawaiian was stunning.

They were setting up for a wedding.

Hawaii is a must see if you’ve never been and like sub-tropical destinations.  It’s incredibly beautiful and well worth the vacation!

Hanging around – why not spend a non-traditional Thanksgiving in Hawaii?!

Travel Thursdays – Sydney!

27 Oct

I learned to love travel from my amazing family.  They have shown me how important it is to see other cultures and enjoy the differences from around the world.   One of my absolute favorite family trips was to Australia.  I posted earlier about Cairns but didn’t get to share anything about Sydney in that one because I had so many photos.  I’ve decided to share only some of them today because I have hundreds from the trip.  It was one of my favorite spots to see and it was one of the last really big trips we took all together.  I made a movie from our trip and tried to take as many pictures as possible. These photos were all taken on a small point and shoot so the quality isn’t great but I think the subject matter does more of the talking 🙂

You absolutely can’t go to Sydney and not see the Opera House.  I know I LOVE modern architecture but even if you didn’t, you could enjoy it’s marvels.

The tiles!

It’s safe to say I was borderline obsessed 🙂

Even the bathrooms were cool! Ha!

The Harbor Bridge.  I thought it was so awesome that you could climb this!  I didn’t have the chance to but next time I won’t miss out 🙂

We got to explore Bondi and Manly beaches.  Both were beyond beautiful!

My brother and I watching the warm storm brew over the emerald waters.

Some of the trees had the largest, most interesting roots!

One of the large modern fountains.  You can’t tell here but this thing was huge.

We also ventured outside of the city to see the Three Sisters.  They were in the most beautiful area and we took this very steep ride-like “train/tram” down a rock face!  Very cool to get deep down in the tall trees.

The forests went on for a long ways.

While outside the city, we saw so much wildlife!  We ended up going to an animal reserve where we got to get up close and personal with some native animals.  This was one of my favorite things that we did in Sydney.

They have so many beautiful birds.

I liked this one 🙂

A wombat!  So fitting for my love of the Wombats (a band) music!

These koalas were fighting or communicating somehow.  I thought they were such sweet animals but come to find out they are actually pretty aggressive!

They are also nocturnal, they sleep all day and scavenge at night.

I loved the kangaroos!  They were so friendly and soft.

Obviously they were friendly because  we were feeding them but they were so gentle and sweet.  It was neat to get to interact with them.

They are also known for their reptiles which I didn’t as many pictures of because I’m deathly afraid of snakes, let alone me take a picture of one!

Here’s me and my family.  This was one of the best trips of my life and I can’t wait to go back someday.  I’m so thankful I had the chance to have such a great experience with my family.  We visited so many other places including the Olympic grounds and other beaches so I may post about those on another Travel Thursday but for now, enjoy!

Travel Thursdays! Cairns, Australia

6 Oct

When I made the trek over to Australia, I flew into Sydney first.  However, I did do a little traveling and In between Sydney and Dunk Island, I stopped in Cairns for one night.  It didn’t have much activity there but boy oh boy was it beautiful.  It was right on the ocean and gave me a tropical island feel.  Here are a few photos from a great place.

The trees were all large canopies with hanging strands.  They were very beautiful.

This public pool was AMAZING.  You could wade in and just get your feet wet or completely submerge to fully cool off.  There were tons of people lounging in the grass areas that surrounded this pool.  It was also an infinity pool looking out on the ocean.  Pretty surreal.

There was also a boardwalk all along the ocean where you could see the sail boats and the local wild life.  These cranes were everywhere!

Cairns is a great place to visit and worth stopping in.  However if you make the trek to Australia make sure to only stay here one or two days.  There’s not enough to fill many days with in this small town.  It’s a must see though 🙂

Travel Thursdays!

29 Sep

I’ve just come up with this new idea for my blog to do Travel Thursdays.  Every Thursday, I will write about a great place that I’ve been and that I think is worthy of a visit : )

To start off my first Travel Thursday, I’m going to write about Hawaii since that will be my next bigger adventure.  I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii with some of my family and Ian.  I love spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii because it seems so wrong but right to be barbequing on Thanksgiving with your toes in the sand.  Very non-traditional but so nice to be care free on an island in the middle of the Pacific.

The beach outside my family’s condo.

I’m just a beginner but I can’t wait to do some more surfing.  I always like to go when in Hawaii because the water is so warm and the views are beyond breathtaking.  My brother likes to surf as well so when he comes along, we go out together.  I often wipe out simply because I get memorized watching all the fish swimming beneath me in the wake.

I saw a turtle while snorkeling just off the rocks here!  They are common in Hawaii but do not touch them.  It’s harmful to the animal and highly illegal.  Not like anyone would ever see you but if they do, it’s a huge fine.

I love hiking to hidden beaches.  There are little public coves like this all over the islands.

Lounging with the family : )  I love just being able to hang out with my family in Hawaii.  I’m really lucky that my family likes to all come here together.  We have a blast together!

Ohhh yes and the sunset are unreal…

Enjoy the water slides at the resorts!  Here’s my cousin : )  We had a lapping contest, look out pool goers!

View from above of part of the pool at the Marriott in Ko ‘olina.

Find some shade and relax, enjoy the views, and/or read.

Not a great picture at all but the sushi with the fresh fish in Hawaii is out of this world!  One of my favorite sushi spots is Sensei Sushi on the Maui island!

You can go boating!  My aunt and uncle live in Hawaii (on Oahu) and they take us to wake surf, boat, tube, and much more out on their boat.  We’ve seen turtles from the boat and also some amazing waterfront, out of this world, estates.

Relax in a calming lagoon.  Some resorts have lagoons without the waves that are very safe for really little kids or just loungers.

If you get the chance to go to Hawaii, explore as much as you can.  It’s one of the most wonderful places in the world 🙂

Flashback Friday!

23 Sep

I used to be an avid home movie maker (which I still do I just haven’t posted any videos in a long time BUT working on putting some of the newer, better stuff up!).  Below is a short video I made of flying over the Great Barrier Reef in Australia from Cannes to Dunk Island.  It’s not the most exciting video I’ve ever made but the shots of the water are so blue, I just want to go back to Australia now!  It gets much more entertaining half way through with my brother’s antics.  I have some pretty hilarious and embarassing content for my new idea of “Flashback Fridays.”  It’s OK I can definitely have a good laugh at some of my past projects so feel free to as well as I post them 🙂

Oh and the part where my brother talks about swimming with a shark… that really happened minus his exaggerations 🙂  We ran into one while snorkeling on the reef!

I made a video introducing my family to the world over the course of our two weeks in Australia together and I have to say that one is pretty funny.  I’ll post that one next Friday!

Summers in Lake Tahoe, California

29 Aug

There is no better place to spend a summer than in Lake Tahoe, California.  There are many reasons for this but I do believe pictures do way more justice.  Here is a photographic catalog of why I believe summers are so incredible by the lake.

Visit Emerald Cove (on the west shore of Lake Tahoe) where you can hike, swim, bike, boat and anything else outdoorsy.

Here’s a part of Emerald Cove where you can climb around a waterfall that leads all the way down the mountain face from the top as melted snow run off.

You can get a crazy lean going on if you go sailing!  The colors are just so unreal.  You can see all the way down to the bottom in the more shallow parts of the lake.

Hike one of the many ridges around the lake.  This is Eagle Ridge near the West Shore.

Enjoy hanging outside at night with friends and making s’mores 🙂

Relax on the beach.

Watch a sunset from one the many public piers.

Catch some interesting photos of the sometimes unpredictable weather that may roll over the lake.

Grab dinner or a drink with family/friends down by the Lake.  You can also enjoy ice cream down at some of the piers.

Watch the sun go down.

Float the river!  The Truckee River is one of the most fun rivers to float.  Yes, I know this picture is ridiculous but it’s my brother and me and that’s what you get when you put us together. Ridiculous-ness : )  You can rent a large raft like this one or you can bring your own which I’ve also done plenty of times.  This is a MUST in the summer time, don’t miss out on this fun.

On the river.

Paddle board, kayak, swim, whatever your aquatic needs desire.

Go tubing on the Lake!

I’m just so in love with this lake, I could go on and on but it’s a destination made for explorers.

I’ll be going back to my heaven on earth in less than two weeks for my brothers wedding and I’m counting down the days.  I can’t wait to be on the water and relaxing with all of my family.  I will most definitely have plenty more summer on the lake photos!
