I do love glitter (DIY)

10 May

After this lovely post was Freshly Pressed, I knew I wanted to put this DIY to work in my apartment.  I chose a different color scheme but the idea was all from the FP’ed blog.  Of course my craft guru/partner, Chelsea, was right by my side.  We stocked up on supplies and hit my patio for some evening basking and crafting.  I love these nice evenings where the sun is out and hanging out on the patio is the go to place.  This idea the original blogger had was so great and I love how these glitter clips helped me put my photography in my own home.  So many good memories to share.

This was the extent of what you need.  Paint and glitter of choice, a paint brush, clothes pins, some twine and tacks (not shown here and I picked white so it somewhat blended with my wall).

We painted each clothes pin followed my an immediate dip in glitter.  No glue needed.

Chelsea chose pink glitter and I chose white but we ended up liking both results so much that we just shared the different colors.

Here’s the white ones.  A more subtle glitter and they look like candy!

I made one string for above my mini-office.

And one of travel and adventure above my couch.

Such a great and easy project to do.  I was able to add lots of memories and color to my place in just one short afternoon.  I always find that putting more personalized items in my space makes me smile more.  There are always good things to look back on and motivates me to keep creating the good times.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! 5 Reasons why I’m so excited for the Holiday season

8 Nov

OK, OK.  I know it’s not even Thanksgiving, which I am also VERY excited for, but with the time change and all the new exciting lights out in the city, it’s really getting me prepared for a wonderful holiday!  There are so many reasons why I enjoy this time of year but here are 5 to get me started:

1. Gingerbread!

I love gingerbread cookies, gingerbread with icing, gingerbread teas/coffees, gingerbread scented candles and pretty much gingerbread everything.  There’s something so nice about being snuggled up inside the warm house with gingerbread around.

2. Decorations!

San Francisco turns all of the large financial district buildings into large presents.  At least that’s what I see when I look at them 🙂  The lights are so beautiful.  I also love driving around all of the suburban neighborhoods and looking at the Christmas decorations.

3. Snow!

(photo cred)

Although we don’t get snow where I live, this is the time of year when I know snow is falling in all of the mountain towns.  The resorts will fill up and it’s time to go snowboarding.  I usually make a trip out to Michigan around Christmas where Ian’s family is and spend time in the snow with them.  It’s always so beautiful to experience snow around the holidays.  Last year it snowed on New Year’s Eve in Michigan and it was beautiful!

4. Quality Time!

I know, I’m a total family person.  I love getting to spend quality time with my friends and family on the few extra days off of work.  It’s so nice to just share stories and catch up on life.

5. The Movies!!!

I feel like every family has their tradition of what movies they watch around the holidays.  I LOVE holiday movies so much.

A Christmas Story has always been our staple.  I love the scene where Ralphy’s brother is trapped in his snow one-sy.

Progressively over the years, Elf has become more of a staple.  It’s just so hilarious I can’t even point out one of my favorite parts.  Will Ferrel does such a great job of bringing the jolliness in this movie.

Christmas time is one of my favorites and I’m going to enjoy every moment of this upcoming season 🙂

Bringing the outdoors indoors??

26 Jul

When I found my very first place on my own in June, I fell in love.  The possibilities of having space that was just mine delighted me.  It was by very random/lucky circumstances that I found my place, too.  This has been a big year for me and it seems that pieces are falling in all the right places.  Over the next month or two, I’m slowly going to unveil some of the attributes that I think are really neat about my new place!  The things I’m going to share will be contributions from me and many others.

I’d like to dedicate this first one to my new fabulous landlord who has an amazing eye for interesting, beautiful, and practical home decor pieces.  Besides for building a closet to die for, which I will unveil soon, she added these wonderful wall lanterns to the sides of my closet.  I love them because they are VERY practical, contributing all the living area light, and give the feel that you are in a very nice outdoor space.

Here’s one of the two lanterns that hang on both sides of my closet.

Another view of the lanterns.

The set up!  My closet is the centerpiece and my mini-office/blogging station 🙂 is the mess on the right.  I haven’t found a place for my standing lamp but I haven’t had any use for it with these wonderful wall lanterns!  They really brighten up the room and give it a great vibe.

I just think they are the cutest asset.  Why go with a plain standing lamp like the one I had chosen?  Save space while using cool lanterns that you could probably pick up in GREAT shape at a garage sale or flea market.  There are so many classic styles, too.  Yes they are just lanterns but they grabbed my eye and deserved my first home decor post from my first space that is only mine 🙂
