DIY Outdoor Wire Chandelier

24 Jul

Chels and I were perusing some stores the other day and free people had these amazingly, unexpected chandeliers hanging all over the store.  We started really looking at them and realized they could be easily made.  Since I’ve been working on my outdoor space little by little, I thought this would be a fantastic addition to that area.  I found this chandelier to be the perfect mixture of delicate and interesting.  This DIY is made of things that are subject to change depending on your taste but the staple things I needed were:

Wire (I used jewelry wire because I liked how thin it was)
Hot glue
String or fishing wire to hang
Floral arrangements and/or Beads, Feathers, etc.

I picked these two pieces out of the floral section of the local art store.

I cut the flower heads off of the bundle with about an inch of stem.  I then twisted the wire around the remaining stem and placed hot glue along the stem and wire.  I spread the flowers out evenly.

I then went through and twisted the jewels (which I cut with about 2-3 inches of string so they could dangle at different lengths) in between the flower sections.

The wire started out coiled so I pulled it apart so it was this sort of whimsical twist.

I twisted the two ends of the wire together and hung it from the post of my overhang.

This took maybe 10-15 minutes at most after collecting the pieces to create this outdoor chandelier.  I love it and when the weather starts to turn, I’ll just bring it inside and hang it somewhere inside 🙂

Comment with any questions and I’d be glad to help!

Get happy. Outside!

8 Jun

I thought I’d switch it up a little since it’s Friday.  I’ve had a week full of horse riding and spending time outdoors which inspired me to get this outdoor set up.  I’m inside typically a good chunk of the day at work so on my lunches and after work, I love to be outside.  I have the perfect little stoop to relax on that’s shaded for the weekend mornings or cool evenings.  I wanted to be able to make a space I could enjoy so alas, here’s my new outdoor nook!  I have a few more ideas I want to put into make it this more of an actual outdoor “living” space if you will and I’ll share as I update.

It’s a simple wire set.

I have some greenery around as well 🙂

It’s a simple space that I hope to bring to life over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!  Also, if you have any fun ideas or patios I’d love to hear/see.  It’s amazing what fresh air can do for you.  I always feel so much better just sitting outside with the sound of the birds and I actually have a very green back yard and side yard.  I’ll have to do a garden post soon.

Have a wonderful weekend!

My girly tomboy ways

23 May

I have a few more fashion posts coming up with summer on its way.  There are so many easy ways to stay cool while looking cute and protecting your skin at the same time.  I’m such a huge advocate of sunscreen and hats simply because I love to be outside but the sun can be very unforgiving on unprotected skin.  With the help of Chelsea we shot some awesome summer looks that are very affordable and city or suburb appropriate 🙂

F21 romper, F21 shoes, Urban Outfitters hat.

I love the fun detail on the back of this romper!

Front buttons, soft neon nails and floral print.

Feather trim and F21 shades.

Here I wore this with some chunky heels but I’ve also worn this outfit with flat sandals.  It’s very easy to transform for whatever you may be doing for the day.   I look for simple things with fantastic little details.  Summer time is the time to spend enjoying the longer daylight savings time and exploring.  I look forward to a lot of that this summer.

I do love glitter (DIY)

10 May

After this lovely post was Freshly Pressed, I knew I wanted to put this DIY to work in my apartment.  I chose a different color scheme but the idea was all from the FP’ed blog.  Of course my craft guru/partner, Chelsea, was right by my side.  We stocked up on supplies and hit my patio for some evening basking and crafting.  I love these nice evenings where the sun is out and hanging out on the patio is the go to place.  This idea the original blogger had was so great and I love how these glitter clips helped me put my photography in my own home.  So many good memories to share.

This was the extent of what you need.  Paint and glitter of choice, a paint brush, clothes pins, some twine and tacks (not shown here and I picked white so it somewhat blended with my wall).

We painted each clothes pin followed my an immediate dip in glitter.  No glue needed.

Chelsea chose pink glitter and I chose white but we ended up liking both results so much that we just shared the different colors.

Here’s the white ones.  A more subtle glitter and they look like candy!

I made one string for above my mini-office.

And one of travel and adventure above my couch.

Such a great and easy project to do.  I was able to add lots of memories and color to my place in just one short afternoon.  I always find that putting more personalized items in my space makes me smile more.  There are always good things to look back on and motivates me to keep creating the good times.

Comic relief for the animal lover

10 Apr

Chelsea introduced me to the Yapsie fan page on facebook and “liking” the page has been one of the best things I’ve done since I’ve joined facebook.  They post the cutest and funniest photos of animals all the time.  I thought I’d share a few of my favorites from Yapsie’s page.  I had to stop myself from downloading the entire page.  They post a new one pretty much daily.  Highlight of my facebook day 🙂  Enjoy!

My favorite Bostons are back!

15 Mar

Just ’cause they’re cute, I thought I’d put up my photos of Em and Matt’s Boston Terriers (that have made an appearance on my blog many times now) that I shot last weekend.  Hopefully they make somebody else smile out there, too 🙂

Battle!  These two wrestle and pretend to battle all day long.

They can be so cute and so (pretend) ferocious sometimes!

Mid battle pause HAHA!

I hope this gave you a good laugh like they did me when I was reviewing them.  We are almost to Friday and that’s a wonderful feeling :)!

Urban dress

14 Feb

Chelsea and I no doubt have a love for looking at others fashion blogs.  One of the things I love most about them is the photography.  I love the outfits and ideas but most of all I love the photos and how a simple outfit and a simple area combined can become spectacular.  These next few posts are our attempts at a few fashion posts.  Chelsea is great for these sort of shoots because she already looks like a model!  It was definitely a learning process but I have to admit we laughed really hard all day long on these shoots.  It was definitely a lot of fun!

This is one of my favorite dresses from, surprise of the year, Forever21!  In case you couldn’t tell from past posts, I absolutely LOVE that store.  (Shoes are Urban Outfitters) This outfit I’m wearing would be a great Spring outfit and Chelsea’s a great Fall outfit – Enjoy!

This mural had some of the most beautiful and vibrant colors.

I just love the way this skirt moves!

Chelsea in Urban Outfitters shoes, Forever21 felt hat (so Florence I love it), and Charlotte Russe shorts/top.

She’s straight out of an Anthropology magazine.  It was way fun to shoot photos of her!

Love the heart necklace.

I love this one!

OK, the rest of the week entails some more fashion posts but then I’m off on a trip that will leave my blog full of travel photos next week!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

My Favorite Bostons

8 Feb

So on my puppy wish list I mentioned Boston Terriers as being one of the pups.  This is because of Emily and Matt who introduced me to such a cute breed.  They got Lord Clark Edwin Hamilton the third (haha or we just call him Clark) when they first began dating 5 years ago.  When I moved in with them for the winter after my college days had ended, Clark was my morning heat warmer.  When Emily and Matt would get up and leave for work super early in the morning, Clark would quietly come into my room (because of course I always left the door cracked for him) and jump into to bed under the covers curled up near my feet.  I will always have a special place in my heart for Clark for this very reason.

After a few years, Em and Matt decided they should get another Boston so that Clark wouldn’t be so lonely during the day while they were at work.  This is where Betsy comes in.  They are both as cute as could be and although Betsy still acts like a puppy and has high energy I really just do love these two.  When they get going though, these two are wrestling and putting on quite the show when other people are around.  You may remember them from this past post.  Here are a few pics of them from this weekend.

My dearest darling Clark 🙂

Betsy and Clark show boatin’.  They pretend to fight and bite each other but really just slobber all over each other while snorting.  They crack me up!

Me and B.

Em and B.  It’s like B is trying to have a human conversation with Em in this one.  You can’t see Clark in these ones where we are lounging because he snuggles under the blankets.  They really are just so cute!

Puppy wish list

3 Feb

If you know me, this is not new or surprising.  I love animals.  So much.  I wish that I weren’t so busy and could own a dog but I just don’t have a fair enough amount of time to give a pet a home yet.  I know this about myself and feel it’s the best thing for an animal.  I’d hate to leave a dog at home for 12 hours at a time.  So until I can give the quality of life I’d like to give a dog, I somtimes look up cute pictures of puppies that I would adopt in a heartbeat 🙂  Here’s my puppy wish list and a cute way to start the weekend!

OK, so who am I kidding?  I want so many more than the ones listed here.  I would really adopt any puppy that I felt was the perfect match for me 🙂  These are all amazingly cute puppies though.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Want a cute cube?

17 Aug

If you are tired of looking at the same ol’ boring cube, I have a cute quick fix!  It’s something I like to do to organize and have my cube not look so drab.  Whatever style you are into, it’s easy to do and really simple.  The steps to a cuter cube are below:

Step .1

Pick 0ut your binder that you want out in the open.

Step 2.

Find the pattern or image you want to decorate with and print it out on an 8.5″ x 11″.  Cut or fold to fit the width of the binder.

Step 3.

Slide appropriate sized slip into binder spine.

And voila!  You have a new set up of cute binders =)

I’ve personally chosen a white lace pattern and a bright floral pattern for my cube.  What about you?
