American Idol kicking off again

20 Jan

I have to admit American Idol a great show to watch.  Although time has been of the essence lately, maybe I’ll record some episodes to catch up on this weekend while the rain comes down.  I do enjoy listening to talented singers (maybe it has something to do with my major love for music?).   Anyways, Adam Lambert stopped by the morning shows to do some interviews and hang out.  Very, very nice guy and gracious for all the support his fans have been giving him.

Happy Friday everybody, I know I’m looking forward to a low key weekend filled with movies, horses and rain.

Alice 97.3’s Now and Zen Festival

27 Sep

This past weekend my work held another fun event, Alice’s Now and Zen Festival in Golden Gate Park.  I was actually contemplating being boring and not going because it started to rain a little bit and the festival was outside.  Then I came to my senses and realized I’m never one to turn down live music with good people.  Especially since it was a work event, we were lucky enough to enjoy free food, drinks, and a great view right next to the stage.  Now some of you really probably think I’m crazy for almost not going.  Alice’s promotion’s department does such an amazing job of creating polished, family and pet friendly events.  I shot some photos to share in case you missed out!

Michelle Branch was the first act to go on that I saw.  Before her there were two other acts, Thriving Ivory and Eoin Harrington (both originally from the San Francisco area).

I have to be honest she didn’t sound too great.  However, I have a soft spot for her because my high school close friend and I would blast her CD and sing at the top of our lungs.  We were big Michelle Branch fans and proud about it.  We even got our parents to sign us out of school so that we could go into the city to one of her shows (and Jason Mraz haha we were classic back then).  She did play a ton of her old hits too.  Beyond being a young fan back in the day, I now am a HUGE fan of this outfit!  Couldn’t be any cuter of an outfit for the singer/songwriter.

I also LOVE her classic white and gold guitars.  I’m no fashionista but if I had a say, her outfit wins so far for best fall threads.

So many cute dogs out and about enjoying the music as well.

Chelsea and Ian at Now and Zen

Sarah and Vinnie from the morning show then came out with Uzette, Icky, and Jamie (from the show) to chat with the crowd and get them excited for the Goo Goo Dolls.  They are such an entertaining morning show.  I really enjoy listening to them in the mornings and I’m not saying that because I work for the same station.  I genuinely think they are very funny!

Another dog enjoying the show.  I’m sorry, I’m such a huge animal lover I can’t help but photograph them 🙂

Another cute thing I liked at this show… were these cute snow hats/mittens!  At the end of the long tails were pockets to put your hands.  So great for the snow and I love seeing kids out and about enjoying a nice outdoor concert.

Then the Goo Goo Dolls hit the stage and I have to admit they still sound good!  They have way more recognizable songs than you’d think.

He rocked it out for an older musician.

The other Goo Goo Dolls singer.

One of my favorite parts of the performance (as cheesy as it sounds) was when they release a ton of black balloons into the audience for, you guessed it, Black Balloon.  One of their classic throw backs.

The client/employee area.  The marketing department always decorates the event so cute and practical!  There was coverage from rain and/or sun.  The sun did come out and it turned out to be a beautiful day.

The crowd.

Ian and I : )

Here are my two favorite songs from the day.

Goo Goo Dolls throwback “Broadway”

It reminds me of a ski road trip I took with my dad to Utah when I was in middle school.  We had such a great time and jammed to this CD on the way there.  He would have chosen News/talk the entire time but I was able to play my Goo Goo Dolls CD for part of it.

Also, I do have to admit I like the produced version of Michelle Branch’s new single “Loud Music.”

Enjoy and Happy Tuesday everybody!

Rachel Platten showcase for lunch?

15 Sep

Yesterday for our lunch time sneak peak, we had a new artist named Rachel Platten.  I am never really sure what to expect when we find out a new artist is coming in that I’ve never heard of but find that I’m always pleasantly surprised.  It’s so refreshing to see artist come in who are great performers and just know they are made to do this.  Rachel is one of those performers that really commands the stage with confidence and she’s funny, too!  She took 90’s rap and slowed it down with her soothing voice all while beat-boxing in between verses and playing piano.  It was a great example of new and fun talent.  She will be touring this Fall so if you like her music, try to catch one of her shows as you will most definitely be entertained.

Here she is rocking out on her piano.

She was very funny and had a very beautiful voice!  Oh yes, and did I mention how great my iPhone photos are… haha at some point I will get an up to date iPhone but until then… 🙂

Here is her single off her upcoming album:

Enjoy this sneak peak!

Scars on 45

31 Aug

I forgot to share another lunch lounge from my side in the music industry.  Recently, we had the artist Scars on 45 come in and serenade us while we ate the most amazing pizza in the world, Patxi’s.  I know it sounds like I was more excited about the pizza and to be honest I kind of was.  I had never heard of Scars on 45 before and it’s not really my music that I gravitate towards but the group was very talented.

A lot of people in the building hardly ever go to these lunch showcases (maybe because of disinterest?) but this is exactly why I got into this industry, to work in media and music.  I’ve gone to every single lunch lounge since I’ve been in my job.  It’s so extraordinary that we get these LIVE sneak peaks at upcoming albums.  We are always offered the chance to chat with the musicians and ask any questions, take photos, etc.  Also, at this stage in their careers they are always so grateful that someone is interested in hearing them play.  We have also had some AMAZING lunch serenades (only I call them this 🙂 ) that I geek out over (the Kooks, Grace Potter, Fitz and the Tantrums).  Since I work for four major radio stations in San Francisco we also get bigger stars that come through as well but they never show case their music, although I would NOT oppose that!  The bigger stars usually just do an interview and some photos.

Scars on 45 were the last performance we had but we do have some upcoming events that I can’t reveal just yet but stay tuned and I’ll keep everyone posted on upcoming reviews of albums.  Scars on 45 will have songs on Grey’s Anatomy this next season and that’s where listeners will start to hear them so keep your ears open if you like soft, sweet music.

Guitars laying around and Scars on 45 playing.

Here’s me and some co-workers taking a photo with the very humble band.

Here’s there single if you’d like to get a taste for the sounds of their upcoming record.  The girl in the band didn’t sing too much but when she did, her voice was beautiful.

Alice’s Summerthing 2011

1 Jul

There was an amazing set up for Alice’s Summerthing this past Sunday at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.  The weather turned out to be incredible and the park filled up fast with over 20,000 people to create the largest Summerthing turnout to date!  I love working for a company that can make 20,000 people show up and leave feeling like they had the best Sunday they could have had.  Above is a shot of the stage from pretty close up.

The crowd went so far back it was crazy.  As far as you could see there was a huge crowd of people.  There were so many that they trickled onto the hilly sides and even up into the trees!

Here is Parachute performing up close and personal with the crowd.  You might recognize them from previous blog posts as they have come into my work before and did a special lunch time performance for us.  They have such a beautiful sound and a personal show.  They will be going on tour with Michelle Branch and the Goo Goo Dolls soon!

Of course, we are always creating fun times together 🙂  We are missing Rani in this photo though!!  We took this before she got there.

Oh good morning!

Jen and I during Matthew Nathanson, a San Francisco singer songwriter with an amazing voice.

The event was a huge success and Alice 97.3 has an AMAZING team that put on seamless events.  I can’t wait for Now and Zen at the end of summer!

Matt White private concert for lunch?

31 Mar

One of the perks of working in the radio business is that there is always some up and coming artist, dropping by to do a showcase.  Today we were lucky enough to have Matt White who has a famous song called “Love” that’s actually in a McDonald’s commercial right now.  He has such a beautiful voice and played 4 or 5 songs for us!  As employees, we were invited up for a free lunch and this awesome sneak peak of Matt White’s latest album!

I have some video of his amazing voice but for some reason can’t upload it here so here’s a photo:

I showed up a little early too and got to hear much more.  Days like today are the days I’m thankful for working in such an awesome environment.  You never know what the day is going to hold!  Matt is playing a show tomorrow night at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco but it’s sold out, so if you got a ticket and are going you are in for a real treat.
