Winter Wonderland – the magic of snow!

9 Jan

While other snow areas in the country are hurting for snow, I got spoiled in Michigan enjoying a nice storm.  Here are the last of my photos from my trip!

Perfect snowflakes.

There’s something about those mid-west skies…

Road trip.

Pit stop at Lambeau Field!

They had to de-ice the plane before leaving.  Not very comforting!

Heading back west.

I had such a wonderful time in MI.  It’s a very beautiful place and if you ever get the chance to visit Marquette, don’t pass it up.

Happy Monday and Enjoy 🙂

I now understand the Hype of Fleet Week

10 Oct

This was the first time I’ve been to the San Francisco Fleet Week air show since I was a little kid.  My parents tell me that they used to take us when we were little and I believe it but I must have been so tiny I have no recollection.  Since my brother is a pilot in the air force, I have such a new appreciation for aviation and like to show any support I can.   Here are some interesting photos from my day in the city watching the planes with Ian.

The advertising is in the sky now!  It was so interesting to watch the letters spell themselves out.  I would LOVE to know how this is done.  I’ve seen it before but it’s just amazing to see in person.

We first climbed up to Coit Tower to get a 360 degree view.  However, they hadn’t trimmed the hedges so it wasn’t as easy to see as I’d thought.

Some of the views as we were hiking up.

The few of many sailboats out on the bay.

Treasure Island.

Flying formation!

Look at all of those sailboats.  It must have been amazing to watch out there on the bay.

A United Airplane doing super low flyovers.

We saw this fighter jet break the speed of sound.  It was beyond unbelievable…

One of the smaller planes bomb diving by the Golden Gate Bridge.

You can tell how close it got to the water by the smoke!

Bay Bridge.

People everywhere spectating.

Plane over Pier 39.

Pier 39!

The seals could careless that their air space was being completely dominated by huge flying machines.

Ahh and at last… the Blue Angels!

Skimming Alcatraz.

Getting close to the sail boats.

Truly remarkable.

How they get so close is beyond me!

I think it’s definitely worth seeing and if nothing else just go and support your troops.  They have done more than you will ever know for us.

Ohhhh, it is loveee!

My brother (Andrew Hedin) and his fiance (Liz Stewart) are getting married this September and what an amazing match they are!  My brother has flown in the air force for the past 9 years as many job titles but never his life long dream title of Pilot, although he is a pilot outside of the air force with gliders and private planes.  His dream has been to fly for the air force and major commercial airlines which was made a dream come true about a year or so ago.  He wanted to sharpen his skills before taking the final pilot’s test so he decided to go to a tutoring center to really hone his skills.  Who do you know was managing the office… Liz!  Needless to say, Andrew passed his test so he and Liz will be leaving after their honeymoon to go on his pilot journey for three years.  He’s lucky to be able to bring his other half along : )  I couldn’t be more happy about the union of the two and wanted to take some photos for them.  What better place to do it than an airshow!  The very thing that brought them together is the very thing that’s going to keep them together on their travels.  Here are a few of my favorites from Sunday.

The ring!

Airplanes : )

Watching the air show together which was incredible to watch.

In the background is my brother’s helicopter!!  It was SO cool to sit in his seat and see his “office.”  Funny note: His seat is actually so small he couldn’t sit in it properly.  He had to sit on it sideways and on one knee to be able to perform his duties on the helicopter.

The nose and tail of this plane both opened up, it was HUGE.

LOVE.

Watching the planes together.

There are more but I’ll leave it up to the happy couple to determine what they’d like to share!
