Neon Indian Summer

30 May

There’s something about the warmer weather that makes me want to dress in brighter colors.  Chelsea and I had a fun time mix and matching neons and soft colors to put this post together.  I also love anything with a Native American twist.  Alas, Neon Indian Summer…

Chelsea in F21 top, sandals and skirt.

Love the bows on the back.

F21 neon sandals. SO cute!

These two brights go so well together.

You could even pop this with heels.  Some nice summer sandal wedges.

I love this neon pink jacket for summer coverage (F21 blazer, dress, and Urban Outfitters sandals)

For daytime, I threw the Native American inspired tunic over a neon green swim top to put with the hot pink jacket.  It’s subtle but the perfect summer bbq color combination.

I also love racer back tops for summer.  They show a little extra skin and allow a more casual feel.

Ring from Topshop in NY.

For night time, you can add some earrings, heels and leggings to dress it up a bit and stay warm through the cold currents we get here in the city.

Urban Outfitters shoes.  I can’t tell you how comfortable I find Urban Outfitters shoes to be.  You know when you find the ones that fit like a glove?  That’s how I feel about every pair I’ve bought from them.

I always find that if you’re going to wear heels with a shorter tunic/dress, you must wear leggings.  Without leggings, sandals are a much better fit.

I find bold jackets are always a difficult decision to buy because you don’t know how much you will wear them but if you buy them at Forever 21 they are guilt free and I wear mine more than I ever thought I would.  It’s perfect for days when you don’t want to leave without one.  Also, with the amount of black and white that I have in my closet this jacket always adds a good pop 🙂

Happy colorful summer everyone!

When summer time is here, everything feels right

16 May

With summer coming up, there are a lot of things to look forward to.  It gets very warm here in the summer but there are a few things that never get old even when the weather is unbearably warm.  My two favorite seasons are winter and summer for the exact opposite reasons involving weather.  I love snow and I love being in the water.  Here are a few things I’m looking forward to this summer.

Shaded hikes near my place.

Doing outdoorsy things like skeet shooting with my dad and step dad.  I don’t hunt, I love animals too much but shooting the clays is a lot of fun!

Weekend warrior trips with friends.  I have an upcoming trip to Vegas with some of my best friends from east to west coast!

Barefoot lake days and nights.

And sunny coastal days.  When it’s clear out, you can see everything in the bay.

Bring on the summer times, I’m ready.

Bring on the summer hair

1 May

Since I’m on the go constantly, I like to spend the most time sleeping and the least getting ready in the morning.  Throughout time, with the long locks that I like to keep, I’ve found many easy and fast ways to make your hair look like you put more time into than you really did.  This is one of my favorite go-to styles and takes less than five minutes.  All you need are some bobby pins and a hair tie to make it happen.  It also helps if you can braid your own hair but you could live without the braids.  I do this style to my own hair all the time and sometimes I feel the messier it is, the better.

I put a few small braids on each side.

Then I messily pull back my hair into a pony tail tucking the braids in as well.

I tie up the loose strands into a low messy bun.

Then I take my bobby pins and pull pieces from all over and pin them around my lower crown.

Voila!  A low Grecian-style bun.

This is an easy way to tame your summer hair in just minutes.  It’s also nice to keep it out of your face when the temperatures are peaking.  I have a few more easy summer hair styles I will share over the next couple weeks.

Flashback Friday – Summer Sundays

14 Oct

Whenever there is downtime on a Sunday my family can always manage to pull it together for a Sunday get together.  Since I am lucky enough to have two amazing families (parents both re-married to whom I believe are their soul mates), there can be anyone dropping in on a family day.  This past summer of Sundays a few of us were able to gather at my mom and step dad’s for a fabulous dinner and valuable time spent together!

I love getting to see our dogs.  They are my family’s dogs and since I have a small place of my own now and I’m gone all the time, I can’t have my own yet.  It wouldn’t be fair to the animal but I still get to see our dogs when I head to my parents.

Of course, if we are anywhere near the pool Sierra can’t resist but show off her swimming and retrieving skills.  It’s rather entertaining.  However, she has tunnel vision for the pool.  Once she jumps in, it’s so hard to get her out unless Darrin calls to her.  She is very loyal to him 🙂

The sweet girl, Sammy.  She has been aging the past few years but still tries to keep up with Sierra.  You just can’t help but smile at this face.

We spend many days out by the pool and many nights in the hot tub.  I love being in water especially on nice summer days and nights!

Backyard flowers.

And there are always good treats around!  My mom is a terrific baker.

I thought I would post about this today because the weather has been so beautiful and Ian’s family is coming into town tonight :).  We are going to have a dinner all together at my mom and Darrin’s this Saturday where my dad and Vicki can also join us!  It’s going to be so nice to get to spend quality time with everyone and just enjoy a delicious meal all together.  I can’t wait!

This will be one of the first that my brother and his wife, Liz, unfortunately won’t be able to attend.  We will miss them greatly but can’t wait to see them next month.  They had to move to Texas so my brother could continue his pilot school training.

Summers in Lake Tahoe, California

29 Aug

There is no better place to spend a summer than in Lake Tahoe, California.  There are many reasons for this but I do believe pictures do way more justice.  Here is a photographic catalog of why I believe summers are so incredible by the lake.

Visit Emerald Cove (on the west shore of Lake Tahoe) where you can hike, swim, bike, boat and anything else outdoorsy.

Here’s a part of Emerald Cove where you can climb around a waterfall that leads all the way down the mountain face from the top as melted snow run off.

You can get a crazy lean going on if you go sailing!  The colors are just so unreal.  You can see all the way down to the bottom in the more shallow parts of the lake.

Hike one of the many ridges around the lake.  This is Eagle Ridge near the West Shore.

Enjoy hanging outside at night with friends and making s’mores 🙂

Relax on the beach.

Watch a sunset from one the many public piers.

Catch some interesting photos of the sometimes unpredictable weather that may roll over the lake.

Grab dinner or a drink with family/friends down by the Lake.  You can also enjoy ice cream down at some of the piers.

Watch the sun go down.

Float the river!  The Truckee River is one of the most fun rivers to float.  Yes, I know this picture is ridiculous but it’s my brother and me and that’s what you get when you put us together. Ridiculous-ness : )  You can rent a large raft like this one or you can bring your own which I’ve also done plenty of times.  This is a MUST in the summer time, don’t miss out on this fun.

On the river.

Paddle board, kayak, swim, whatever your aquatic needs desire.

Go tubing on the Lake!

I’m just so in love with this lake, I could go on and on but it’s a destination made for explorers.

I’ll be going back to my heaven on earth in less than two weeks for my brothers wedding and I’m counting down the days.  I can’t wait to be on the water and relaxing with all of my family.  I will most definitely have plenty more summer on the lake photos!

Vancouver, Canada eh?

26 Aug

Last summer at this time I was in Vancouver, Canada and loving every minute of it.  It’s such a fabulous vacation destination for so many reasons. It’s such a clean, wonderful city.  Here are some photos to show why Vancouver is in my top 5 most beautiful cities that I’ve ever seen.

There are cruise ships, freighters, sea planes, and so much more passing by on the water way with the mountains in the background.

If you know me, you know my obsession with interesting modern art and architecture.  This was an area for cruise ships.

The Olympic torch from the previous games here!

City-scape

Pixelated free willy, pretty awesome.

You can take a short drive to Shannon Falls which is gorgeous.

The wall to the parking garage at the airport was all plants!  This was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.

My family and I had such a great time on this trip.  We’ve been twice now and my brother has decided to have his honeymoon in Vancouver and Whistler in 3 weeks!  Pictures don’t do this place justice.

Some things are growing really fast

23 Aug

A few weekends ago my family had a huge summer BBQ to celebrate my brother’s summer birthday, most recently.  The ‘kids’ of the family are all summer babies so it’s easiest for us to get together all at once and just enjoy each others company.  Vicki, of course, pulled off an AMAZING summer soiree.

Vicki made bbq chicken breast, grilled asparagus, summer salad, watermelon slices, and amazing potatoes.

Someone also out enjoying the summer was Big Al, the family heirloom.

Here’s my brother and his fiance Liz watching this wondrous animal.

He’s getting HUGE!  Here’s perspective next to an ever-so-classy beer : )

You can’t forget my nephew, Luke.  He has become quite the water baby and of course made himself at home in a small turtle swimming pool.

Nicole and Luke 🙂

My step brother Tyler always making something delicious on the bbq!

I love getting to see all my family.  We all live within an hour drive of each other but get so busy in this crazy world that it’s nice to plan down time together.  I appreciate any family time I can get 🙂
