Music lovers come together

31 May

This weekend is Live105’s annual BFD concert and I couldn’t be more excited!  It’s my absolute favorite event of the year and the Live105 crew is such an amazing team of people, I feel so proud and lucky to get to work with them.  I’ll be shooting photos and enjoying all the good tunes the day has to offer. There is a lot of local talent this year and definitely some ‘do not miss this’ artists.  Below is the line-up so if you’re in the area don’t miss out on this incredible music festival!

Stand outs that I’m looking forward to are Of Monsters and Men, Geographer, Walk the Moon, Dragonette, Young Science, the Naked and Famous, Silversun Pickups and so many more!

Neon Indian Summer

30 May

There’s something about the warmer weather that makes me want to dress in brighter colors.  Chelsea and I had a fun time mix and matching neons and soft colors to put this post together.  I also love anything with a Native American twist.  Alas, Neon Indian Summer…

Chelsea in F21 top, sandals and skirt.

Love the bows on the back.

F21 neon sandals. SO cute!

These two brights go so well together.

You could even pop this with heels.  Some nice summer sandal wedges.

I love this neon pink jacket for summer coverage (F21 blazer, dress, and Urban Outfitters sandals)

For daytime, I threw the Native American inspired tunic over a neon green swim top to put with the hot pink jacket.  It’s subtle but the perfect summer bbq color combination.

I also love racer back tops for summer.  They show a little extra skin and allow a more casual feel.

Ring from Topshop in NY.

For night time, you can add some earrings, heels and leggings to dress it up a bit and stay warm through the cold currents we get here in the city.

Urban Outfitters shoes.  I can’t tell you how comfortable I find Urban Outfitters shoes to be.  You know when you find the ones that fit like a glove?  That’s how I feel about every pair I’ve bought from them.

I always find that if you’re going to wear heels with a shorter tunic/dress, you must wear leggings.  Without leggings, sandals are a much better fit.

I find bold jackets are always a difficult decision to buy because you don’t know how much you will wear them but if you buy them at Forever 21 they are guilt free and I wear mine more than I ever thought I would.  It’s perfect for days when you don’t want to leave without one.  Also, with the amount of black and white that I have in my closet this jacket always adds a good pop 🙂

Happy colorful summer everyone!

Can’t help but wonder ’bout what’s underneath these city streets

29 May

Well this weekend in Vegas was a major success.  I’m just getting back in the swing of things and I’ll lead this short week with just a few photos from the perfect Las Vegas weekend.

You fly right into the Vegas strip.  It’s so nice to land and get to your hotel in under 30 minutes.

Cruising the strip at night, the lights and magnitude never cease to amaze me.

Perfect pool days in the warmth.

You get to watch the madness as you take off to leave this adult Disneyland.

It’s peak season in Vegas and the downtown area is booming.  I got to see my wonderful brother and his wife.  Also, I got to see my best friends for Fiona’s bachelorette.  All was right in the world for a weekend.  Now back to reality and I have some MAJOR things coming up this week.  Can’t wait to share with you all.  Hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Makeshift make up

25 May

Whenever I’m on the go, I’m usually dolled down.  For the rare occasion that I’m going to need to jazz it up a bit and don’t have time to go home, I’ve often had to create eyeliner and lipstick out of random other make up and people have often asked me how.  I thought I’d share this helpful tip and may it help you at some point in time 🙂

I’ve determined you can make anything out of chapstick. Any kind really, unless it’s a plumper or something that tingles.  I’d stay away from those and even better yet I usually use ones with SPF in them.

For eyeliner, I shave off some chapstick and mix with whatever color eye shadow I have.  For the above photo, I used carbon (black) from Mac make up but I’ve used greens, dark blues, and browns.  You can also use lighter colors if you like that look.

I’ve also done this with lip stick.  I’ll take a pretty colored eyeshadow and swirl some in a sliver of chapstick and voila!  You can also put a gloss on top of the make shift lipstick to give the glossy/polished look.

I hope this chapstick tip finds you handy at some point.  Now here’s a preview of next week’s fashion post with Chelsea.  Lots of great details.

Happy Friday everybody!  Have a wonderful holiday weekend and remember what Memorial Day is for ❤

Brighten Up and Work Out

24 May

With the sunny evenings and longer days, I’ve been enjoying every after work evening outdoors.  I’ve been riding a lot more and getting out even if just for a walk.  A little neon can’t hurt the case and this bright apparel  (shown on Chelsea below) is a great way to add a little happiness to the cause.  You can get neon tennies is almost any color now and you will be much more visible to cars passing by if you are near a road.  Try to avoid wearing dark colors or colors that blend with your surroundings if you are going to be running through streets.

Apparently, they add some good spring to your step as well 🙂

I’m loving all the neon tennis shoes!

Working out is so good for your mind and body.  Take advantage of the cooler evenings because it’s only going to get warmer for summer!

My girly tomboy ways

23 May

I have a few more fashion posts coming up with summer on its way.  There are so many easy ways to stay cool while looking cute and protecting your skin at the same time.  I’m such a huge advocate of sunscreen and hats simply because I love to be outside but the sun can be very unforgiving on unprotected skin.  With the help of Chelsea we shot some awesome summer looks that are very affordable and city or suburb appropriate 🙂

F21 romper, F21 shoes, Urban Outfitters hat.

I love the fun detail on the back of this romper!

Front buttons, soft neon nails and floral print.

Feather trim and F21 shades.

Here I wore this with some chunky heels but I’ve also worn this outfit with flat sandals.  It’s very easy to transform for whatever you may be doing for the day.   I look for simple things with fantastic little details.  Summer time is the time to spend enjoying the longer daylight savings time and exploring.  I look forward to a lot of that this summer.

What you did or didn’t miss at Bay to Breakers this year

22 May

Well the annual San Francisco race Bay to Breakers seems to always carry conflict around it.  You’d think, why is that?  It’s supposed to be about a 7 mile round all around the streets of San Francisco but after the actual running athletes make it through, there are a group of costume dressed young adults ready to drink their way through the course.  This can cause lots of litter and disruption in the streets but if you’re easy going and have never seen this race, it’s definitely something very different.  This year, since Chelsea lives right along the course, we thought we’d just hang out and watch the spectacle from one point of view.  The morning progressed very quickly.  We woke up to the cheering on for the athletes which then only turned into dj’s and dance parties.  Here are some photos in case you missed this extravaganza in San Francisco this weekend.

The runners trekking through the course.

The crowds of runner’s started to pick up.  As you can see though, there’s no one in the park area at this point in time.

Around 830am or so, musicians started setting up along the race to get ready for the more festive participants.

Around noon, the streets were PACKED.  I headed down to shoot some photos and was caught in the masses.

Costumes of all kinds.

Limbo in the mix.

People would stop in one place for a while and then keep moving on.

The parks were all filled with people who just needed a break.  Golden Gate Park fills with thousands.

Celebration confetti.

This is really an event for all different kinds to enjoy.  If you’re an athlete, you’ll enjoy the earlier festivities.  If you’re a party animal, you’ll enjoy the tail end of the runners.  If you’re a spectator, you will be on sensory overload all day.  There is NEVER a dull moment at San Francisco’s Bay to Breakers race.

Now we dance in our own picture, where all the rules have changed

21 May

Wow, do I have so many blog posts to come this week.  I thought I’d just start off with an instagram post until I can organize the rest of my posts for the week.  I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!  The weather has been amazing here and I’ve been soaking it up out at the barn and in the city.

Picture perfect weekend weather.

Rooftop life style.

Picture perfect sunsets on Alcatraz.

Reflections of the city.

Dolores Park lounging.

I still can’t even believe we got to hear part of Neck of the Woods live by Silversun Pickups at work…. dream come true.  I LOVE this band so much.  Swoon is one of my favorite albums of all time and to hear some of these songs with the acoustic bass was un-real.

Oh yeah and you know my other favorite band, the Wombats?!  Saw them again and had a fantastic night!

Lunch adventures.

My place.

Where I’d chose to be any day.

Evening walks.

Bay to Breakers.. can’t wait to share all my photos from this San Francisco classic event!

Have a great week!

Never too late for one of these

18 May

Well I was hoping to get this up yesterday for Travel Thursdays but got majorly caught up.  It’s never too late for one of these posts though, right?  I wanted to showcase Las Vegas, Nevada on this one since I’ll be going here very soon with some of my best friends.  One of my closest friends, Fiona, will be getting married this summer and she met her future husband in Las Vegas so it only fit that she go back with all of her girlfriends to remember it all.  I couldn’t be happier for them and I couldn’t be happier that we all get to spend a weekend there together laughing and hanging by the amazing pools with a drink in hand.  I’ve been to Vegas now a few times.  Once for a conference and for another great Bachelorette party.  In the few times I’ve been there, of course I went exploring and shooting photos.

I stayed at the Palazzo one time which is the newer Venetian.  It’s BEAUTIFUL.

Palazzo at night.

Part of the room.  So nice!

Our view!

The pools in Vegas are my favorite part besides for probably the shows, however I’ve never seen a show in Vegas!  I’d love to see the Cirque du Soleil there though.  Maybe I need to add that to my bucket list…

The strip.

The very futuristic mall.  Apparently, the shopping is supposed to be wonderful in Vegas however I’m that big of a shopper and would rather spend the time outside.  If you are into shopping though, you will probably want to go here!

Inside the Venetian.  You can take gondola rides!

More inside the Venetian.  I mean Vegas really thinks of some of the most creative things.

You can also visit the sign and take pics near/under it.

Oh yeah, how could I forget?!  You can also gamble.  I like to sit at the slots with friends but I only gamble about $20 every time I’m there.  I’m not too into the gambling but it’s fun to see all of the lights.

The Paris hotel is so pretty!

Looks just like the real thing but much smaller 🙂

Ballys cool entrance.

The infamous Bellagio light show.  I find the music a little cheesy but think it’s one of the most beautiful spectacles on the Vegas strip.

Caesar’s Palace.

The night clubs are so surreal!  This is Surrender.

Bed/tables in the middle of the pool.

Beautiful light fixtures.

The strip at night.

Las Vegas is a bustling city.  It can be a little overwhelming but nonetheless a great place to explore with friends and family.  There are amazing restaurants and all kinds of entertainment for all ages.  It is the Disneyland for adults!  I still have yet to get to the “old” Las Vegas strip on Fremont street.  I hope at some point I get to experience that 🙂

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!!

When summer time is here, everything feels right

16 May

With summer coming up, there are a lot of things to look forward to.  It gets very warm here in the summer but there are a few things that never get old even when the weather is unbearably warm.  My two favorite seasons are winter and summer for the exact opposite reasons involving weather.  I love snow and I love being in the water.  Here are a few things I’m looking forward to this summer.

Shaded hikes near my place.

Doing outdoorsy things like skeet shooting with my dad and step dad.  I don’t hunt, I love animals too much but shooting the clays is a lot of fun!

Weekend warrior trips with friends.  I have an upcoming trip to Vegas with some of my best friends from east to west coast!

Barefoot lake days and nights.

And sunny coastal days.  When it’s clear out, you can see everything in the bay.

Bring on the summer times, I’m ready.
