Urban dress

14 Feb

Chelsea and I no doubt have a love for looking at others fashion blogs.  One of the things I love most about them is the photography.  I love the outfits and ideas but most of all I love the photos and how a simple outfit and a simple area combined can become spectacular.  These next few posts are our attempts at a few fashion posts.  Chelsea is great for these sort of shoots because she already looks like a model!  It was definitely a learning process but I have to admit we laughed really hard all day long on these shoots.  It was definitely a lot of fun!

This is one of my favorite dresses from, surprise of the year, Forever21!  In case you couldn’t tell from past posts, I absolutely LOVE that store.  (Shoes are Urban Outfitters) This outfit I’m wearing would be a great Spring outfit and Chelsea’s a great Fall outfit – Enjoy!

This mural had some of the most beautiful and vibrant colors.

I just love the way this skirt moves!

Chelsea in Urban Outfitters shoes, Forever21 felt hat (so Florence I love it), and Charlotte Russe shorts/top.

She’s straight out of an Anthropology magazine.  It was way fun to shoot photos of her!

Love the heart necklace.

I love this one!

OK, the rest of the week entails some more fashion posts but then I’m off on a trip that will leave my blog full of travel photos next week!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Music Monday, some weekend keepers and a preview for the upcoming week!

13 Feb

The past week has been quite the week for new music in my world.  With two new previews of some top albums about to drop, my ears have been on sensory overload in the best way possible.

First, James Mercer from the Shins stopped by to play an intimate set show casing some of his new songs off the Shins album to be released (Port of Morrow) in the next month or so.  He played “September” and “Simple Song” off of the new album which were both equally tranquil and beautiful.  I can’t wait to hear the rest of the songs live at Coachella!

Last night was pretty special as well.  If you had any connection to ’90s music then you would know The Cranberries “Linger” or “Zombie” in a heartbeat.  They played those two hits as well as some new songs off of their new album “Roses” to drop next month (it was supposed to be this month but has been pushed back).  I really like “Tomorrow” off of the new album.  It speaks volumes and man oh man does Dolores O’Riordan have some Irish iron lungs.  They sound absolutely fantastic and I continue to look forward to the new album.  One of our radio stations, Alice 97.3, hosted them at a small intimate show at San Francisco’s Infusion Lounge.

I spent a good deal of time at the barn on Saturday just enjoying the day time hours and hanging with the horses.  I guess I’m still that little kid at heart that likes to go out to the barn and spend half my day there.  There’s something so refreshing and peaceful about it.

This isn’t a horse I ride but the way the light was hitting her while the sun was going down was so beautiful!

The rest of this week’s blog posts will be mine and Chelsea’s rendition of San Francisco’s fashion week.  Since it’s New York fashion week right now and I’m headed there Thursday night (not to fashion week but from some leisurely travel), we thought we’d show some of our favorite trends right now to get me ready for the big apple :).

Tahoe is the best

10 Feb

OK, here are the last of my photos from last weekend.  Onto a new weekend we go!  Happy Friday 🙂

Watson Lake laps!

Getting wild.

Donuts on the Phazer.  This thing is awesome.

Custom paint job.

Taking turns making hot laps on the Phazer.

Gorgeous Day.

We were on top of a lke that was slowly melting.  Will a real winter hit us this year?  Or are we just in an off season because last year was SO good?

Blue skies all weekend long.

Matt and Clark having a moment.

Me and B having a moment HAHA!

One of my favorite Mexican eateries on the North Shore, El Sancho!  Not only is it delicious but the views are pretty great, too.

View from El Sancho.

Bus stop.

The moon started filling up and it was gorgeous.

Sunset driving home.

I think I love sunsets so much because they remind me to reflect on the things that I’ve accomplished in that day.  Did I do something fun?  Did I accomplish anything I’d wanted to?  Was it the best day I could have made it given the circumstances?  And they are simply beautiful.

I can’t wait to get back there.  It’s a place that can have all the snow in the world or none at all and I’ll just love it no matter what.  I didn’t get on my snowboard at all but maybe next time.  I had so much fun snowmobiling with Emily and Matt and was sore for days.  Like sore to sit down even.  It was awesome and I can’t wait to do it again.  Our next reunion will be for a Monstor Truck show coming up which I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to.  They just seem so American, how can you pass up a chance to see these machines in person?  I won’t forget ear plugs though.  I hear those are essentials!

Have a great weekend!

Trevor Andrew + Desillusion

9 Feb

Love this video and now I know the story behind the artist that made “Run Hide” which is a song that I LOVE. You have to click on the link to go watch it from Transmissions blog.  No gimmick here, just an awesome video.  Transmission’s blog always posts the best, most interesting and artistic videos. Definitely worth following.

To celebrate its tenth year of existence, Desillusion magazine has chosen to honor the people who have inspired them most this past decade.

The first of a six part series, “This is Trouble”, is a short documentary on the life and philosophy of Trevor Andrew, former pro icon of snowboarding, who is now pursuing a successful music career.

Beach trekking in the winter

9 Feb

Love this place.

She’s the cutest!

There’s usually so much more snow than this!

When you can’t skip rocks, just throw ’em 🙂

Me and Em, I love this.

Take me back?

This is the warmest winter in Tahoe I’ve seen in a while but it sure is beautiful no matter what conditions.  Enjoy!

My Favorite Bostons

8 Feb

So on my puppy wish list I mentioned Boston Terriers as being one of the pups.  This is because of Emily and Matt who introduced me to such a cute breed.  They got Lord Clark Edwin Hamilton the third (haha or we just call him Clark) when they first began dating 5 years ago.  When I moved in with them for the winter after my college days had ended, Clark was my morning heat warmer.  When Emily and Matt would get up and leave for work super early in the morning, Clark would quietly come into my room (because of course I always left the door cracked for him) and jump into to bed under the covers curled up near my feet.  I will always have a special place in my heart for Clark for this very reason.

After a few years, Em and Matt decided they should get another Boston so that Clark wouldn’t be so lonely during the day while they were at work.  This is where Betsy comes in.  They are both as cute as could be and although Betsy still acts like a puppy and has high energy I really just do love these two.  When they get going though, these two are wrestling and putting on quite the show when other people are around.  You may remember them from this past post.  Here are a few pics of them from this weekend.

My dearest darling Clark 🙂

Betsy and Clark show boatin’.  They pretend to fight and bite each other but really just slobber all over each other while snorting.  They crack me up!

Me and B.

Em and B.  It’s like B is trying to have a human conversation with Em in this one.  You can’t see Clark in these ones where we are lounging because he snuggles under the blankets.  They really are just so cute!

The top of a beautiful blue world

7 Feb

While spending the weekend with Emily and Matt in Tahoe, they were nice enough to take me out on their snowmobiles which is always a good time!  I love getting to go snowmobiling with them because it’s one of their true passions and they are both so good at it.  It’s also so liberating flying through the woods with the wind in your face and the Lake by your side.  One of the stops we made was at Watson Peak and it was incredibly beautiful.  I really had the best time enjoying the outdoors this weekend with these two.

There hasn’t been fresh snow in a while but it got very chilly at night.  They need a new snow very badly but they’ve got the temperatures at night for it.  During the day was too warm but it sure was beautiful.

We took the sleds up to the top peak of Northstar to enjoy a drink and some food and of course the nice day.

Toys.  Emily and Matt have the most fun garage of anyone I know.

I just love her!

I’ve missed my friends!

From Northstar we headed to Watson Peak which was just unreal.  I used to live where I could see this lake everyday and I can’t believe I don’t anymore.  It’s so incredibly beautiful and my opinion of that never changes no matter what the weather or angle I’m looking at it.

Em and Matt’s friend Ryan came along with us for the day, too!  His girlfriend, Kim, was working for the day so what better way to kill time than go for this beautiful snowmobile ride and he has quite the sled.  I’ll be sharing that in one of my next few posts.

One of the most fun days I’ve had in a while.  I have so much more to share from this weekend so I’ll continue to post more photos throughout the week.  Until then, enjoy!

I had missed this place too much

6 Feb

Over the past weekend I had the chance to spend some quality time with two of my favorite people, Emily and Matt.  We had so much fun taking in the outdoors and relaxing while catching up.  Quality time with good friends has seemed to be the perfect medicine lately 🙂

Puppy wish list

3 Feb

If you know me, this is not new or surprising.  I love animals.  So much.  I wish that I weren’t so busy and could own a dog but I just don’t have a fair enough amount of time to give a pet a home yet.  I know this about myself and feel it’s the best thing for an animal.  I’d hate to leave a dog at home for 12 hours at a time.  So until I can give the quality of life I’d like to give a dog, I somtimes look up cute pictures of puppies that I would adopt in a heartbeat 🙂  Here’s my puppy wish list and a cute way to start the weekend!

OK, so who am I kidding?  I want so many more than the ones listed here.  I would really adopt any puppy that I felt was the perfect match for me 🙂  These are all amazingly cute puppies though.  Have a wonderful weekend!

A Playful Playlist

2 Feb

So as the story is told, I’ll be attending the first weekend of Coachella this year.  The tickets are purchased and the coordinating with my music loving friends is happening.  I could not be more excited for the experience of this adventure considering my love for photographing live music and listening to great songs.  Granted I’ve seen a lot of these bands live already but if a musician is good, seeing them live will never get old.  Here’s my first playlist to share of songs that I’m so excited to see played live in Indio and are my recommendations for catching this year at Coachella!

A good playlist to listen to while going for a hike, like this one (above) I went on this past weekend 🙂

La Roux “I’m not your toy”
Miike Snow “Sylvia”
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals “Goodbye Kiss”
Manchester Orchestra “I’ve got friends”
Cat Power “New York”
GROUPLOVE “Lovely Cup” (I’m obsessed with this band right now, they are phenomenal)
Justice “We are your friends”
Gotye “Eyes wide open”
At the Drive In “One Armed Scissor” (Classic song)
Florence (naturally :D) every song (here and here)
M83 – the entire new album but “Midnight City” is their most famous hit of the moment.
Radiohead “High and Dry”

So much great music to be heard at Coachella this year – Enjoy!
