Bonus to my Flashback Friday…. Jellies!

30 Sep

I know that kids from my elementary school were really into Jellies but I’ve always wondered, were these a National and/or International hit as well?!?  I mean Jellies were technically the original crocks but cuter and in much better ’80s colors!  I’m just biased though because in an age where you really fixate on one thing at a time, my Jellies were it.  I had one pair and I wore them until those suckers broke!  They keep trying to re-create Jellies and make them a big item again BUT they have gone seriously wrong with some new styles.  Here are ones that I think feel short of the originals…

These definitely do NOT encompass the comfort-ability nor the versatility of the originals.  I mean how are you supposed to build rock dams in your back yard creek or climb the jungle gym in these???

The only word that comes to mind is WRONG!

Come on now…. that’s not even a true Jelly anymore!!!!!

Anyway, now I’ve spent way too much time investigating Jellies when my memories will suffice 🙂  Was anyone else into Jellies or have something from Elementary School that they loved??

Travel Thursdays!

29 Sep

I’ve just come up with this new idea for my blog to do Travel Thursdays.  Every Thursday, I will write about a great place that I’ve been and that I think is worthy of a visit : )

To start off my first Travel Thursday, I’m going to write about Hawaii since that will be my next bigger adventure.  I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii with some of my family and Ian.  I love spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii because it seems so wrong but right to be barbequing on Thanksgiving with your toes in the sand.  Very non-traditional but so nice to be care free on an island in the middle of the Pacific.

The beach outside my family’s condo.

I’m just a beginner but I can’t wait to do some more surfing.  I always like to go when in Hawaii because the water is so warm and the views are beyond breathtaking.  My brother likes to surf as well so when he comes along, we go out together.  I often wipe out simply because I get memorized watching all the fish swimming beneath me in the wake.

I saw a turtle while snorkeling just off the rocks here!  They are common in Hawaii but do not touch them.  It’s harmful to the animal and highly illegal.  Not like anyone would ever see you but if they do, it’s a huge fine.

I love hiking to hidden beaches.  There are little public coves like this all over the islands.

Lounging with the family : )  I love just being able to hang out with my family in Hawaii.  I’m really lucky that my family likes to all come here together.  We have a blast together!

Ohhh yes and the sunset are unreal…

Enjoy the water slides at the resorts!  Here’s my cousin : )  We had a lapping contest, look out pool goers!

View from above of part of the pool at the Marriott in Ko ‘olina.

Find some shade and relax, enjoy the views, and/or read.

Not a great picture at all but the sushi with the fresh fish in Hawaii is out of this world!  One of my favorite sushi spots is Sensei Sushi on the Maui island!

You can go boating!  My aunt and uncle live in Hawaii (on Oahu) and they take us to wake surf, boat, tube, and much more out on their boat.  We’ve seen turtles from the boat and also some amazing waterfront, out of this world, estates.

Relax in a calming lagoon.  Some resorts have lagoons without the waves that are very safe for really little kids or just loungers.

If you get the chance to go to Hawaii, explore as much as you can.  It’s one of the most wonderful places in the world 🙂

Fall-ing for colors

28 Sep

One of my favorite parts about Fall are the changing of the leaves.  I am thankful for the beautiful warm weather we are finally having but I can’t wait to see the Fall we are going to have this year.  One of my favorite places to go during Fall is Michigan because everywhere  you go it’s canopies of striking colors.  I shot this photo in Michigan last Fall and oh how I love it there.

Get this cute rocker look!

27 Sep

After I saw how cute Michelle Branch’s outfit was this past weekend, I was determined to put a look together so that girls could afford-ably dress like this if they like this style!  I threw this together in less than a half hour with the help of Forever 21 and H & M.

Here’s Michelle’s look:

Here’s how you can create this look for yourself!

I’m loving all the Fall tones now.  I love, love, love this look!

Alice 97.3’s Now and Zen Festival

27 Sep

This past weekend my work held another fun event, Alice’s Now and Zen Festival in Golden Gate Park.  I was actually contemplating being boring and not going because it started to rain a little bit and the festival was outside.  Then I came to my senses and realized I’m never one to turn down live music with good people.  Especially since it was a work event, we were lucky enough to enjoy free food, drinks, and a great view right next to the stage.  Now some of you really probably think I’m crazy for almost not going.  Alice’s promotion’s department does such an amazing job of creating polished, family and pet friendly events.  I shot some photos to share in case you missed out!

Michelle Branch was the first act to go on that I saw.  Before her there were two other acts, Thriving Ivory and Eoin Harrington (both originally from the San Francisco area).

I have to be honest she didn’t sound too great.  However, I have a soft spot for her because my high school close friend and I would blast her CD and sing at the top of our lungs.  We were big Michelle Branch fans and proud about it.  We even got our parents to sign us out of school so that we could go into the city to one of her shows (and Jason Mraz haha we were classic back then).  She did play a ton of her old hits too.  Beyond being a young fan back in the day, I now am a HUGE fan of this outfit!  Couldn’t be any cuter of an outfit for the singer/songwriter.

I also LOVE her classic white and gold guitars.  I’m no fashionista but if I had a say, her outfit wins so far for best fall threads.

So many cute dogs out and about enjoying the music as well.

Chelsea and Ian at Now and Zen

Sarah and Vinnie from the morning show then came out with Uzette, Icky, and Jamie (from the show) to chat with the crowd and get them excited for the Goo Goo Dolls.  They are such an entertaining morning show.  I really enjoy listening to them in the mornings and I’m not saying that because I work for the same station.  I genuinely think they are very funny!

Another dog enjoying the show.  I’m sorry, I’m such a huge animal lover I can’t help but photograph them 🙂

Another cute thing I liked at this show… were these cute snow hats/mittens!  At the end of the long tails were pockets to put your hands.  So great for the snow and I love seeing kids out and about enjoying a nice outdoor concert.

Then the Goo Goo Dolls hit the stage and I have to admit they still sound good!  They have way more recognizable songs than you’d think.

He rocked it out for an older musician.

The other Goo Goo Dolls singer.

One of my favorite parts of the performance (as cheesy as it sounds) was when they release a ton of black balloons into the audience for, you guessed it, Black Balloon.  One of their classic throw backs.

The client/employee area.  The marketing department always decorates the event so cute and practical!  There was coverage from rain and/or sun.  The sun did come out and it turned out to be a beautiful day.

The crowd.

Ian and I : )

Here are my two favorite songs from the day.

Goo Goo Dolls throwback “Broadway”

It reminds me of a ski road trip I took with my dad to Utah when I was in middle school.  We had such a great time and jammed to this CD on the way there.  He would have chosen News/talk the entire time but I was able to play my Goo Goo Dolls CD for part of it.

Also, I do have to admit I like the produced version of Michelle Branch’s new single “Loud Music.”

Enjoy and Happy Tuesday everybody!

Samurai Sun

26 Sep

To make a long story short… last Saturday night had one of the most fantastic sunsets I’d ever seen over the mountains but I didn’t have my real camera there to catch it.  Last night I kept my camera on me just in case the same phenomenal sunset wanted to repeat itself again… Although my wishful thinking was left lingering, I was left with this beautiful (what I like to call) Samurai Sunset.

I did have my iPhone for the Saturday night sunset and here are the pictures I got from that.

Florence has yet another!

26 Sep

Her voice is just too good.  New album drops on Halloween day.  I don’t think I can wait, can you tell?! 🙂

Thanks again to fellow blogger, Kathleen, for posting this!

Any other bloggers who post music videos please find me.  I love sharing music I’m listening to and if we have the similar taste, I’m always looking for new great music!

Details, details

25 Sep

Last weekend I went to the Concourse d’ Elegance car show to check out some unique and exotic cars.  To say Ian is a car guy is the understatement of the year.  When I met him, I learned more about cars than I ever thought I would and to be honest I like them more than I ever thought I would, too!  I still don’t know everything about them by any means but I can enjoy looking at them and driving fun cars.  I also learned how to drive a stick-shift once I met him which opens all the doors to amazing cars.  If you share this joy in fast, fun cars the first step is learning how to drive a stick shift.  Car shows are great family events and pet friendly!  I loved seeing all the dogs out at the show.  Here are some photos of the cars from the car show.

I’m personally a fan of the look of the Lotus Elise.  They are SO tiny and light weight but really unique looking.  Also for how exotic they look, they are much more affordable than you’d think.  They also come in an array of interesting colors.

The front end kind of looks like a smiling bug but an attractive bug at that!

The inside is pretty stripped so if you’re looking for luxury this isn’t the car for you.  It’s only a two seater with pretty tight quarters.  It’s a convertible though so on a nice day you can just go cruising with the top down.

The owner offered to let Ian and my mom and I to sit in the car.

The tail end of the Lotus.

This is an Ariel Adams.  It’s street legal but pretty much perfectly made for the track.  The latest V8 version holds the fastest track time around the Top Gear track (if you watch that car show).  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the street.

It’s an open care so it looks like a go-cart that’s mated with a dune buggy.

There are no body panels so you can see the suspension and all other elements that drive this vehicle.

And now Ian’s favorite… the Viper.  He and his dad each have one of these right now and love it (see below).

Ian’s dad, Ron’s, and Ian’s viper.

An all motor Cobra.

Big O Tires was there with a Hooked on Driving car.  Pretty great idea for anyone wanting to get into track driving.

Corvette ZR 1 – the ultimate Corvette (fastest Corvette ever made)

They also had these crazy looking boats in the middle of the show.  They were beyond loud and crazy looking!  Somehow I get the feeling these things just skim along the water because they fly so fast.

Here’s a Noble which is a kit car.  You buy the pieces and put the car together yourself (unless you buy it used from somebody).  Pretty cool looking.

You can’t forget Porsche and blue is my favorite color in most sports cars.

Lamborghini’s

Lamborghini Diable VT engine

Super race cars!

Pet friendly!  I loved this Newfoundland dog, he was HUGE!

And the dog liked the cars too.  I think Ferrari was his favorite.

Brand new Jaguar XKR-S Coupe.

Ferrari Italia.

And then we arrived at Ferrari lane.

One end of the car show with the majority being Ferrari lane.

After leaving Ferrari lane, we saw this race car with the most interesting windows.  I’m sure there is a great purpose for them but I think I’d get a little claustrophobic going so fast in something I knew I’d never be able to crawl out the window if I had to!

We had such a great time at the car show admiring all the fun toys and on our way to the car we saw one last beautiful piece of machine – the Lamborghini Murcielago all black with black rims.

The exhaust is really just huge on this car.  One day I will experience driving one of these 🙂

Swinging on Steroids?!

23 Sep

Our fellow blogger, Kathleen, has shared something extremely cool, that she has recently conquered, with the world recently that I’ve just become fascinated with!  Anyone who has done this is my hero.  Yet somehow if I ever get the chance I don’t know how I’d ever turn it down… but seriously check this out!

Flashback Friday!

23 Sep

I used to be an avid home movie maker (which I still do I just haven’t posted any videos in a long time BUT working on putting some of the newer, better stuff up!).  Below is a short video I made of flying over the Great Barrier Reef in Australia from Cannes to Dunk Island.  It’s not the most exciting video I’ve ever made but the shots of the water are so blue, I just want to go back to Australia now!  It gets much more entertaining half way through with my brother’s antics.  I have some pretty hilarious and embarassing content for my new idea of “Flashback Fridays.”  It’s OK I can definitely have a good laugh at some of my past projects so feel free to as well as I post them 🙂

Oh and the part where my brother talks about swimming with a shark… that really happened minus his exaggerations 🙂  We ran into one while snorkeling on the reef!

I made a video introducing my family to the world over the course of our two weeks in Australia together and I have to say that one is pretty funny.  I’ll post that one next Friday!
