Finally Sunshine and Catwalks in the sky

29 Mar

San Francisco has sooo many awesome things hidden around the city and today I might have discovered one of the most amazing ones.  I read somewhere that if you can get into the Mandarin Hotel (in the financial district), you can take an elevator up to the 48th floor.  On the 48th floor, there is a catwalk with windows from floor to ceiling looking over the entire city.  The catch is that you have to be a guest to get into the elevators.  Although if you are nice enough, they will let you up to check it out and today was my lucky day and I was allowed access.  It was one of the most amazing yet terrifying things to do ever, such a rush being so high up.

Ahhh going up in the elevator to the 48th floor was nuts, the elevator was rattling and flying up the stories.  The elevator was also really cool.  It was all gold mirrors.

The hallways had these beautiful chandeliers and at the end of this hallway, where the light is glowing, is the catwalk!

The view!!!!!  Trans America Building, Alcatraz, the Coit Tower and I could see the Golden Gate bridge but I couldn’t fit it all in the same frame.  So unreal.

Golden Gate bridge on the left.
So. high. up!

OK enough of this amazing spot.  If ever in downtown San Francisco, you MUST go see this spot but beware… if you’re afraid of heights, this rattling catwalk in the sky might not be for you.

Here’s some other photos of things downtown that I shot today cruising around.

I kind of have an obsession with modern art, in case you couldn’t tell 🙂  Can’t wait to get to the MOMA soon!

Of course my favorite farmers market lunches on Tuesday and Thursday are from various vendors at the Ferry Building.  I swear the best grilled cheese I have ever had in my life is located in the Ferry Building at Cowgirl Creamery.

This fountain is in Union Bank right downtown.  Pretty crazy all of the structures around the city.  Many more days like this to come!

Thanks for posting this, it was great. I am an amateur photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area and I am always looking for new subjects and angles to shoot. Your post guided me to the top of the Mandarin for a beautiful clear night. Thanks again. You can see some of my shots of the bay area and other things here: http://www.dmuphotography.com. I will have to check out some of your other posts.
